Prelude

"Inuyasha...w..what are you doing?" Her lips trembled as she saw him looking back at her dumbfoundedly.

"...Kagome...listen to me"

"I thought you told me it was over...that I didn't have to worry anymore"

"Kagome...I'm sorry"

"No, Inuyasha no. Please let go, let go of me...please," crystalline tears rolled down her cheek. One by one. They dripped down steadily until they collided onto the forest floor.

She stopped struggling and lifted Inuyasha's face. "Inuyasha...look at me. What did my love mean to you?"

She was afraid of what he might answer. Her knees were shaking. She felt so weak...

Out of the shadows Kikyo approached calmly with a stoic expression on her face. Inuyasha let go of her.

Kikyo took Inuyasha's hand. Inuyasha responded by looking back at her face. He turned back to Kagome again.

"Kagome, my heart belongs to her. You knew that too, didn't you?"

"Does betrayal mean anything to you?" He looked back at her with guilty eyes, but there was an underlying look of determination.

"Yes, I know what it means. I know exactly what it means. Don't you see what I've been through the last few years I was with you? I felt betrayed and guilty. For being with you when I should be with her. Kagome I need her. She was my life, my love!"

"Then what did the last few years with me mean? Did it mean nothing to you? We loved eachother, didn't we? You can't just forget those moments..."

"Kagome, I won't deny that I had strong feelings for you...but as a friend! Can't you understand that we weren't meant to be?"

"...Is that how you feel?...That we weren't meant to be...?" Her tears continued to fall.

Kikyo stepped up plucked the shikon shards from Kagome's silver chained necklace.

"You don't belong here...Go back from whence you came."

"Kagome...she's right..." Her knees gave out as her body slumped to the grass.

She felt so desperately lonely and betrayed. She whispered, "I stayed by your side Inuyasha. Hoping that someday you would chang your mind...I guess that day will never come."

"Kagome...I -" She cut him off, "I'll go." He just stood there and stared at her, still holding Kikyo's hand.

With that she mustered all the strength she had and stood up. "Inuyasha, you don't have to ask me. I forgive you. I hope you're happy."

He didn't have the courage to respond and merely nodded.

She took off to the well half hoping to hear the silver hair boy running after her...to plead for her to stay.

When he didn't her heart dropped. She felt foolish. Foolish for falling in love. She was blind. She couldn't help it. No matter how wrong his betrayal was, she couldn't stop loving him. This was the way it was meant to be, right?

She belonged to the future. In her time she would get to live a normal life again. Without all the heart ache.

Looking back at the forest she was so fond of, she whispered her last goodbyes for the last time and leapt into the well that would separate him and her 500 years.
