Zuko walked through the field of flowers- flowers that so reminded him of the ones that grew on the island of his childhood. In the distance, he saw a dark figure, a person. The person stood silently for a moment, then raised an arm, pointing in a direction to the side. Zuko followed the gesture, and saw another distant figure, this one pale, clothed in dark colors. A path burned through the flowers, starting at the pale figure, moving towards Zuko, burning a circle around him, and then heading to the dark figure. The meaning was obvious- he would have to choose. But choose between who? Or what? As Zuko looked between the two figures, they started to come closer, become more distinct. But before they got close enough, he heard a loud banging. Someone called, "Breakfast!" and he opened his eyes.
Zuko stepped out of his tent, and sat down at an empty spot by the fire. Katara handed him a plate of food, and he dug in without a word. "No, don't say thanks- I've just been up for an hour cooking everyone's breakfast." Zuko glared at her, and simultaneously the fire jumped a few inches. "Thank. You." he growled. Katara smiled triumphantly. "There, that wasn't so hard, was it?" Just then, there was a loud grinding of rock on rock. One side of Toph's rock-tent slid down, and she stumbled out, her hair in disarray. She plopped down by the fire, and grabbed a plate of food. Before Katara could say anything about her lack of manners, Toph cut her off, "Hush it, Sugar Queen. Nobody wants your nagging this early in the morning, except maybe Twinkletoes here." Toph jerked a thumb at Aang, who looked down, suddenly interested in his food.
They eat in silence for the rest of the meal, and when Katara's finished , she stands up. "Well, c'mon Aang, time for waterbending training." Aang stands up, but Zuko stops him from following Katara. "No, he needs to practice firebending. I could do better when I was 5- he needs to practice." Katara pulled Aang towards her. "Aang still isn't a Master at waterbending. He should know how to put out a fire before he starts one." Zuko fumes, "That's right, you still don't trust me. Do you really think I'd let him make a fire burn out of control?" Zuko holds his hand out over the fire, and closes it into a fist. The fire goes out. "The sun is high, good timing to practice firebending." Zuko lets the fire spring back to life. Sokka had moved closer to the fire, and now he jumped back. "Hey, maybe we should let them play with magic water before you two shoot fireballs everywhere." Toph nods, "For once, I agree with Sokka." Zuko throws up his hands and stalks away. "Fine, fine! See if I care, Aang just won't know how to firebend when he faces my father." He goes back to his tent and disappears inside it. Everyone left by the fire shifts uneasily, feeling guilty. Katara is the first to move. "Well, let's go Aang. There's a river at the bottom of this hill."
