Note: Don't own squat and this had nothing to do with the family series.

What a bunch of nut cases.

At least, that was what Cid thought. They were all after either Shinra or Sephiroth for personal reasons, and no plans to fall back on. They just traveled by ear, so they obviously wanted to race to their deaths. That looney bin in a human shell was…well…nutty. But he thought 'what the hell' and decided to join them. It's not like he had anything else to do.

The pilot sighs and leans against a tree while smoking his cigarette. They had stopped for the night in a forest, and he was today's watchman. Fucking wonderful. He was tired and wanted to go to bed…not watch for monsters. Damned brats…

"Maybe I should take watch tonight."

The deep voice startles Cid out of his musing-and fuming-and looks to his left to find the quietest member of their group. Vincent.

"Go back to bed Spooky. I'm fine."

Vincent narrows his eyes momentarily at the nickname, but says nothing as he joins Cid and sits on the ground. It was quiet…except for the occasional exhale from the blonde to let out smoke.

"I wish…I had your happy-go-lucky attitude, Chief."

Cid stops his hand halfway from his mouth and looks thoughtfully at the gunslinger. Chief? He kind of like the sound of that. It had a nice ring to it. Though, he would only want the raven to call him that. He felt closer to him that way. Like they had known each other for years…even though it had only been a couple of months.

"Then stop brooding and open up a little. I've heard yer story, and to be honest…I think you're a fucking moron."

A glare that would send even Sephiroth running, didn't faze the pilot one bit. Vincent could get mad at him all he wanted, but he needed to face the truth sometime and stop repenting for his non-existent sins.

"Moron, Highwind?"

"Exactly. Nothing was or is your fault. That bitch was only using you for science and it pisses me off just thinking about it."

"That bitch saved my life."

"Yeah…that's the only good she did. The past is done and over with Vince. Ya can't change it or live in it. Now is now. Enjoy yer life while ya still can."

Cid sighs for the hundredth time that day and sits down next to the crimson-eyed man. Those eyes secretly pleaded for reassurance, kindness, understanding, and most of all…to be cared for. Cid could give him that. All of it.

"She doesn't deserve ya Vincent. You need someone who love ya for who you are, appreciates you, and will never leave you behind."

"Like you?"

"Yeah! Like m-"

The pilot stops mid-sentence and blushes bright red when reality hits him like Tifa's fist-which actually did hurt. He had somewhat confessed his feelings for the raven…that he didn't even know he had.

"Cid?"

"Y-Yeah Spooky?" Cid stuttered.

"Thank you."

"For what?"

"Forcing me to realize the truth…and…"

Vincent's eyes finished his sentence and Cid's trademark grin graces his features.

"No problem…and no matter what happens, you have me to turn to."

His words made the burden on Vincent's shoulders lift…and after so many lonely years.

"To a new present!" Cid raises his burnt out cigarette butt in the hair.

"No Chief…a new future."

"Same fucking difference."

Summary: Just simple and sweet. Yes…I realize that Vincent would probably man up a bit more for Lucrecia…but I'm not particularly fond of her. So oh freaking well. Review plz…I have more cookies.
