F'lar and Lessa looked on as the Candidates for the eggs entered the Hatching Grounds. A large clutch sat waiting for them. Thirty eggs and even a queen egg! Ramoth was understandable proud. The candidates spread themselves out, grouping around their preferred egg. There was a space in the queen candidates the size of a person, though none seemed to realize they'd left such a gap. Then the Hatching started, and events flew by. The gold hatched, keened at the lone spot, then Impressed the holder girl next to it. Both Weyrleaders wondered at that, but allowed things to continue. There was only one egg left, a good sized one that likely held a small brown. It started rocking, cracking, shaking. A huge blue dragonette flopped out, and walked with purpose to the gap in the Queen candidates. He was unusual; where the other dragonettes had no markings, he had subtly darker stripes on his back and neck, and an odd streak across his eye. He nudged at something, then went between, keening, before anyone could stop him.
None of the large dragons around the Hatching Grounds uttered their death keen, leaving everyone confused.

A/N: Erm...yeah...this is my sequel to Impression?...Its the first of many chapters, I hope. I wanted to end it on that surprising note, leavin' it with a mystery...Hope y'all don't mind... I'm not usually one for self-inserts, but considering this was never one of my characters, and its based very much on a dream, the only way I can make it work in my head is to do a self insert. I can honestly say I don't know how this is going to work. But, hopefully, you will all enjoy it. I do not own Dragonriders of Pern, just a couple of the books.
