"Hello, my name is Hazel Levesque."
I knew it's her.
I'm preparing my whole life saying the apologies of being the worst of the worst, being a danger, and just as I wanted to interject, she spoke again.
"And here is my soulmate, Frank Zhang."
I stared at her. She looked at me expectantly, and I hastily introduced myself, Leo Valdez, and left as quickly as I can.
I retreated to my cabin as there's no places with enough privacy on the Argo - except my room.
I took off my left boot and peeled off my sock to make sure I've not mistaken. But the name is still there on my tanned skin.
Hazel. Hazel Levesque.
I would've said good riddance to the sky. The gods have given me my cure and punishment since birth - fire, and an impossible soulmate.
A few days later, I discovered why she's acting weird around me. I am her last life's soulmate's doppelganger. Sammy Valdez.
I forced a smile, said, hello, Hazel Levesque, and did what I do best - I ran.
Piper noticed first, she's an expert in cracking down my emotions and feeling there's something wrong with me. I get prepared to face her.
What I didn't expect - she told Jason.
I guess it's hard keeping secrets from soulmates - but I can't be sure. And I will never be.
Piper found me in my room, with Jason tailing behind.
"Leo Valdez, what wrong now?"
I shook my head and beckoned her to leave me alone.
It doesn't work, as per usual.
She walked in, plopped herself on my bed.
"Leo Valdez, don't even pretend you didn't know I noticed you wearing those boots everyday since we met the Romans."
"Leo Valdez. Lie. Still."
I can feel the charmspeak flowing through the air, and Jason and Piper both started undoing my laces.
I looked, because I can't move, but my breath quickened, my eyebrows squished together.
They pulled my socks off.
The name was still clear as day.
Hazel Levesque.
They froze, and I felt the command starting to fade and I curled myself in a ball.
"Leo, you sure this isn't..."
"I'm sure."
"Leo, but that's..."
"Impossible? Yeah. I just happen to have my soulmate to not have me as her soulmate, and having another's name on her. And I just happen to be her former soulmate's doppelganger. Looks like looks isn't the only thing I inherited from my great grandfather. I inherited his luck, too."
