Sherlock Holmes on the Titanic.
By J. C. Rendle.
My dear friend, Sherlock Holmes, looked up from his papers as I entered the drawing room of 221b Baker Street. "Ah, Watson, how would you like to take a voyage to another land?" asked Holmes with a small smile on his face
"Whatever do you mean?" I asked.
"Have you heard of the great ship Titanic?" He asked with a small chuckle.
"Of cause" I answered, "Who hasn't? It's the biggest ship to sail the seas. Why it's said to be unsinkable"
"I have been asked to investigate the red ruby theft" He slipped the days Times over to me and I read the headline.

2 Royal Ruby Missing
The Rine Ruby, belonging to the Kiser in Germany, has been stolen. Late last night three masked robbers broke into the Ritz Hotel in London where the Kiser was staying on vacation. The robbers got away with £2,000 and the Ruby, believed to be worth over 10,000. Britain's number one detective Sherlock Holmes has been called in to apprehend the scoundrels. The three men are believed to be headed to New York on the cruise liner "The Titanic". The men are armed and believed dangerous. Any information of the men should be reported to Inspector Lestrade at Scotland Yard.
"Well" said I "If it's with you I'd love to got to New York" I said, smiling. Holmes looked at me with a glint in his eyes. "Great, I've already got the tickets from Lestrade we set sail tomorrow." In his hand were to tickets with the words "White Star Line: Titanic" printed on them in big letters with a white star against a red back round. "Thank you, my friend, this is the greatest present you could give."
Holmes smiled "Even better than the golden watch from the Duke of Gloster? Some people are easily pleased. Personally I don't think much of the ship itself, no ship can be unsinkable.
"My dear Holmes, Don't be so pessimistic" I chuckled "The men who designed the Titanic where experts" Holmes face was set in ice
"Watson, have you read the book, "The wreck of the Titan"? It sounds like an omen and you know that I am not a Superstitious person but have a strange feeling about this".
As it happened I had read the book in question only the night before. That set me thinking. "Do we know who these people are?" I asked "because there are a lot of people on this voyage from the lower classes to the most important people in this great land of ours."
"Yes, they are Thomas McGinnis, Edward Croft and William Weald. They were in Professor Moriarty's gang. They managed to escape the long arm of the law after their leader was killed. It amused me when I read how the Times described them, armed maybe dangerous defiantly not. They are, to be blunt, idiots. I personally believe they came upon the Ruby and the money by accident, a very lucky accident, when they were meant to be spying on the Kiser. They have joined another criminal underground and been sent on this mission. Whoever's behind this must be kicking himself at this moment in time.
"Do you have any idea who sent them?" I asked. Holmes looked up and shook his head.
"No " he answered quietly. "I am tired, I think it would be a good Idea to have a long sleep before we head to Liverpool".
The next day Holmes and I meet up outside 221b Baker Street. Mrs Hudson, who had packed a picnic basket and Holmes' belongings, stood at the door with tears running down her face "Goodbye Sir, I hope you catch them horrid men"
"Goodbye, Mrs. Hudson, I will try my best, thanks for the lovely cooking".
