Come Back To Me
Lungs were burning, with adrenaline gradually coming to an end as a pain in her back had made itself known among other wounds. But she heed them no mind whatsoever, eyes widening at the sudden realization of what had just happened moments ago.
Alistair.
It hurt to breathe, throat dry as her voice came out in a hoarse tone, calling out for a name. She forced her body to cooperate in order for her to sit up despite the ache she had felt alongside her throbbing head. She needed to find him, needed to hear his voice full of humour, needed to see that he was okay; as long as she saw him alive and with a pulse beating through his veins, then she was fine.
She called out once again, a little stronger by the time she was able to get to her feet. Shoulders were heavy and blood had dripped down on the side of her face from a cut she had received on her temple, but those were nothing as of that minute, for he was more important than anything else.
Worry grew within her with each passing second, which soon turned into fear. Hazel hues frantically searched around, wavering in every direction until they had finally rested onto him. However, what had met with her sight was something that had stopped the world from turning and time from ticking. There was a squeeze around her heart, one she had not felt since escaping the fires of Highever months ago, a memory she could not relive.
And yet there he was on the ground, just a few meters away from the archdemon he had slain. Panic had set itself free within her, his name escaping her once more as she attempted to run towards him. Words of deny repeated themselves over and over in her mind as she got closer, her vision blurring the place around her. There was a shout of her name somewhere behind, but that too she ignored.
Alistair.
Upon reaching a distance of a few feet from him, she dropped down to her knees, leather skidding against the hard pavement. He was unmoving, form still as the dead could be. There was a lump in her throat as she took hold of him in her arms, placing an ear close to his nose for any signs of breathing. When there was none, she had only shaken her head as she hugged him close, slightly lifting his lifeless body onto her lap with her head fitting into the crook of his neck. She whispered pleas and reminders of what they once were and what they were to be. She whispered her promises and wishes if he was to wake. She whispered the words of an underlying guilt and supposed insults that had told him of how stupid he was and that it was time to open his eyes so that they could live a long life together.
They were to stay together forever, right?
But no matter what she said, the only thing he responded with was silence. And with that, a sense of such an emotion veiled over her. She had finally let out a sob, which was eventually followed by another... and another. Tears rolled down uncontrollably, her grip around the man she loved tightened every time she said 'please' as she rocked them back and forth, like a mother would with a small child. She had already lost so much and was ready to lose her life if it meant for him to be safe. But what she was not ready for was the thought of waking up knowing she was never going to see him, a life she was not able to bear, not when the pieces both of them carefully put together was shattered all over again for the second time.
She kissed him once she gained the courage to do so, his lips still warm beneath her salted ones.
Alistair...
Why did you leave me behind...?
