The earth had changed drastically from what you might know. In the year, 2012, everything changed. The things that only existed in fairy tales came from the dark, claiming lives, feeding off the human race. The race of vampires grew every day, as the human one fell apart. Somewhere lucky, they say. To get away, or become slaves to the race, instead of dying. However, meet the ones belonging to the reacted creatures, the tortured, starved, beaten, and used ones. They'll tell you how it's not worth it. That death would be a welcomed coming from the god forsaken, emissary. Cassandra has a life to these creatures. A life she'll fight to get out of. This is her story.

The sun had started to creep towards that horizon. Bare feet ran faster, harder. She must find sanctuary before the sun had completely set, or she was to be another victim to the demons. She avoided shadows, staying in the light. For, in those shadows might be a hunter, waiting for the stupid ones to take a wrong step. She moved faster. The hisses and yowls grew, as the vampires awakened from their slumber.

She shouldn't have stayed out so late. She had been looking for food, and had lost track of time. Now, she was in danger. She had once had a friend that used to go with her. The stupid girl ran into the shadows. After that, there was nothing Cassandra could have done for her friend, crying for help, screaming. She could hear those screams now, playing over and over in her head.

Another look behind her. The sun was nearly set. She looked again to the church. Make it there. Make it there, she would be safe, as the ground was holy, and therefore a vampire could not enter. She saw the last hints of sun fading, as she e moved, her feet crying in pain as they were cut, damaged, bleeding. Still, not enough to make her stop.

A few steps now. A few steps and she'd be alright. She'd be safe another night. However, fate has a mean sense of humor. She would never make it to that church tonight. A blow to the back of her head sent her reeling forward, and crashing into the crumbling steps. She was suddenly jerked onto her back, a shadow of a man looking at her, kneeled over her. He had a bat in his hand. He smiled, those fangs glowing. Cassandra's eyes went wide, then:

Darkness.
