Sherlock gave a start as he heard the door close downstairs. He looked at the clock on the mantelpiece to find that it was much later than he realised. Two minutes later John stood in the doorway with a shocked expression on his face.
"Eh…Sherlock…What exactly happened when I was at work?" he asked incredulously as he gazed around what used to be the sitting room of 221B. Sherlock was sitting in the middle of the floor looking sheepishly at the doctor.
"It was an experiment John which got slightly out of control. Don't worry I will tidy everything up" he added and chanced a look at his flatmate. As he raised his head Sherlock found that the scene was being filmed on John's phone, and the doctor was furiously typing a text to Lestrade Sherlock guessed judging by John's facial expression. John was holding back a fit of laughter but it was a poor attempt and for the next four minutes and forty two seconds, by Sherlock's calculations, he laughed uncontrollably at the detective.
"Oh Sherlock…you… have… really… outdone… yourself… this… time" John managed while clutching his ribs which were in agony by this point. Sherlock gave John a grunt of dissatisfaction before rising from the floor and strolling towards his bedroom.
Sherlock returned to the sitting room and for the first time assessed the extent of the damage he had done. Seeing it from a different point of view he realised what John had found so funny. Slowly he began to sort the mess on the floor.
It really had started off as an experiment. Sherlock had decided that he absolutely had to discover what happened when you mixed potassium permanganate and glycerol and then place it into a frozen turkey. It may be relevant to a future case he had claimed to his brain which strongly opposed the idea. However, as the day progressed boredom had set in and the idea kept nagging him.
Fifteen minutes before John had returned the boredom had beaten him and the experiment had occurred. He had stood at what he presumed was a safe distance, however, as he later realised it was not. He fell to the ground as pieces of exploding turkey hit him violently on his head. Sherlock remained stunned until John had returned unable to move from the shock of the explosion.
His phone beeped in the corner and Sherlock returned to reality. He read the text (from Lestrade)
Sherlock what exactly is that all over your face? :P
Sherlock refused to reply due to the ridiculous symbol at the end of the text.
When he had completed the majority of the cleaning he sat down and turned on his laptop. He could hear John on the phone upstairs laughing again. Sherlock considered a warning shot to shut him up but Mrs Hudson would not be happy.
Over the next few hours Sherlock received a number of texts along similar lines to Lestrade's. He ignored them all and refused to acknowledge John's existence for the remainder off the evening as he continually brought up the topic and how funny and hilarious and ridiculous and downright pointless the whole experiment had been.
Unbeknownst to John who thought Sherlock was sulking, he was in reality able to see how funny it had been. For once Sherlock's heart had ruled his head and the results had literally been explosive. He was sure there would be no next time!
