I hear your voice over the phone,
it's different than before, almost gravely in a way
I come outside as you request wearing nothing but my undergarments
I smile apprehensively when you call me by name
When you come out the shadows I grow cold within
Shocked at the sight of the ghastly beast standing across from me
This isn't my Ben Grimm
He claims this is a result of the accident Ben the and others had in space
I don't believe the orange golem
I take a step back when he approaches me
I flee from possible danger as he continues to claim he's my husband-to-be. . .
In the raging crowd of jeers and cheers I find myself
I had been home when I saw the news covering the Brooklyn Bridge accident
Things around me were burning when I arrive
People were screaming, running back and forth from one place to another
Somewhere down the bridge where the most damage was done people were cheering
I break through the crowd to see what was going on
The Fantastic Four standing together, confused
I recongize Reed Richards and wonder where my Ben has gone too . . . .
The orange Golem stands before all the others
Our eyes meet for a moment
He advances forward, elated to see me
I edged back in fear shaking my head
My fingers clutched my diamond engagement ring
It slipped off so easily
Like our vow had from my mind
Eyes blurred my tears as I leave the ring
Ben Grimm no longer exits
In his place resides a Golem
A Thing
I flee once more from the beast
I am thankful it persues me no longer
