Who's singing? Hinata's pale violet eyes stared at the courtyard. She still sat in her house, but with the screen door leading outside open. She listened as the song came to an end, and the singing stopped. The serene silence of nature suddenly seemed loud, and it made Hinata fidget. Soft footsteps made Hinata face her cousin. His hair was down and wet, the curse mark of the Hyuuga Cadet Branch plainly visible. He wore on a towel, tied snuggly around his waist.
"Ohaiyo, Neji-san," Hinata greeted, eyes on the floor.
A light blush colored her face as though she were embarrassed. She was- she had never seen Neji with his hair still damp from his shower, had never seen him without a shirt, had never seen him so at ease.
"Ah, Sumimasen, Hinata-sama. I didn't see you there."
Neji bowed his head in apology. Some of his loose hair fell in front of his shoulders and dripped water onto the floor. Hinata's eyes widened when her heart skipped a beat. She had ventured a glance at Neji after he had straightened and turned to leave. He had a tattoo of the Hyuuga curse mark on his lower back and, above that, a violet sun. Hinata turned away, not wanting to watch him.
She thought it was unfair- only Naruto had made her heart race and her cheeks flushed. Hinata closed her eyes and pictured Naruto in her cousin's place. Nothing happened- her heart didn't race, her cheeks didn't flush. Neji had taken Naruto's place in her heart.
"♪You are my sunshine, my only sunshine…♪"
The singing began again. Hinata decided to investigate this time. She stood and listened, following the voice. There was no doubt that it belonged to a male. Following the voice led Hinata to a closed door. She put her ear against it as the song ended.
"♪Please don't take my sunshine away…♪"
Hinata stood back, closing her eyes. Byakugan! She looked beyond the door to see Neji walked towards it, now fully dressed. N-Neji-san? she thought, deactivating the Byakugan and stepping away from the door. Neji opened it, and a wave of surprise crossed his face.
"Hinata-sama…" he began, but Hinata turned to flee. "Wait, Hinata-sama!"
Neji grabbed her arm before she could run. She struggled, trying to free herself, but Neji didn't let her go. He forced her back gently, so that her back was against the wall. Hinata stilled tried to get free, but she wasn't putting much effort into it.
"Hinata-sama…" Neji whispered, mouth close to her ear.
Hinata forced herself to look up and Neji's lips greeted hers. Her eyes widened in shock, but she returned the kiss. Neji was the first to pull away.
"You are my sunshine, Hinata-sama. Nankuranaisa…"
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are gray.
You never know, dear, how much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away…
AUTHOR'S NOTE (cuz I'm cool like that)-
Hinote-chan was the first to read this and she thought it was cute. I liked writing it and I've had the song stuck in my head for a long while.
I ended up having to call my grandfather to get all the words- but it still worked out.
