The fire was dying and everone was in bed. Angela sat alone on the living room couch watching cheesy christmas reruns of "The Brady Bunch" and "I Love Lucy". She sipped hot chocolate as she absentmindely look at the tree. Should be the perfect way to wind down after such a busy holiday right? Wrong! There was one thing missing about this oh so framilliar Christmas ritual, it was missing one person.
The whole day had been a disaster, Jonathan and Samantha couldn't stay in bed past 6:30 so everyone got up. Tony called Kathleen to come join in the festivities. When she arrived all decked out in red and green, I wanted to punch her lights out. It got worse when she gave Tony this band that looked like a wedding band. It was a "matching set" Blech! Then they kissed under the mistletoe. The whole set up was enough to make you want to barf. Sam even said this wasn't the normal family day we always had.
Then she stayed for dinner and insisted on helping with every part of the meal. That's usually my job, even if I'm no good at it. They left right after dinner, and the kids retired to their rooms. Mother left on a date with "Santa". Now I'm leaft all alone. Tony and I usually watch the movie "A Christmas Story" while we drink Hot Chocolate and talk on Christmas Night. But he has his wonderful Kathleen to keep him company now. I'm alone and they're probably doing who knows what right about now.
Angela turned off the
TV and put the radio on low. The first song that came on was Blue
Christmas. Angela started singing:
I'll have a blue chrismas with
out you...
