Thirty kilometres from the borders between the lands of Fire and Wind, two shinobi were running to meet up with three others for a mission. The two shinobi named Haruno Sakura; a medic, and Uzumaki Naruto; were laughing at the jokes they told each other to pass the time.
When they got to be about 5 km away Naruto sensed someone coming at them at a high speed. The two of them hid and masked their chakra in hopes that the visitor would simply pass them by.
When the person jumped out of the forest both friends strained their eyes in attempt to see what the person looked like. A second later the person called out their names, but in a questioning tone. They looked at each other, sending silent messages to keep alert.
When they stepped out both gasped in shock to see who it was. There in front of them was Uchiha Sasuke, chicken ass hair and all. Naruto was the first to really react; he jumped and meant to run to his friend but Sakura stopped him.
Naruto looked at her with questioning eyes, "come on Sak, its Sasuke. We can grab him and take him back home."
Sakura looked from Naruto to Sasuke and then back again. Her eyes softened at the obvious joy in his eyes but she could still see the hatred and pain behind it. "No."
Sasuke looked at his old companions thinking that they would be overjoyed to see him, especially Sakura, and was waiting to tell them that he was willing to go back without a fight; but when he heard her say no he needed to find out why. "Oh, you surprise me Sakura; I thought out of the two of you, you would jump on the chance sooner then the dobe."
"Ya Sakura, why don't you want him back? I thought you wanted him back?" Naruto was now confused, but when he saw the look in her eyes he actually managed to figure out what she was thinking.
"Why should we try? It'll end the same as always. We'll ask him to come back, he'll say no; we'll fight, we'll get injured badly; he'll escape; you'll be sad; I'll be heartbroken again… why bother?" She glared at the raven haired man standing across the clearing with deadly intensity.
"So, what you're saying is that you're still the same weak little kunoichi who is in love with me that I left behind?"
"No, I'm saying that I'm no longer that girl because I've given up on you and could care less if you came back now. I'll admit that you'll always have an effect on everything I do; since it was you that made me get this strong, but I don't want to be held back by the hopeless thought of you ever returning. All I'm doing is getting stronger. You'll always be in my heart, but I now realize that I need to move on. You're like my heart's tattoo; I'll always have you in some way." With that, Sakura turned and continued on her trek to Sand to meet Gaara, Kankuro, and Temari.
Naruto stood shocked and Sasuke couldn't help but feel a bit of pain in his heart. Sakura, the one girl who annoyed him most, who loved him most, who HE loved the most, was gone. He then watched as Naruto ran after her.
He stood there and watched as his old comrades left; finally leaving him alone. It was exactly as he had always wanted, for them to leave him alone. Now, he wasn't too sure that's what he wanted. He took off in his original direction, thinking about what had happened. He thought about the past and everything that had occurred; about how he had treated his team and those around him. He thought about Sakura and how he heard she had gotten stronger. He realized she was right.
"I really am your tattoo"

AN: There's a short little one-shot based off the song "Tattoo" by Jordin Sparks. I heard the song and decided it suited Sasuke and Sakura pretty well. I wrote this a really long time ago, so if it sucks, don't blame me (well, technically you can but I'd rather you didn't)
