"Hey! Leave her alone!" Angel yelled at a group of boys picking on the new girl. The leader of the pack, Josh, turned around to face Angel.

"What ya gonna do about it, girly boy?" he spat.

"I will knock you into fucking next week if you DON'T GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!" Angel rarely ever rose his voice, so Josh was too shocked to notice him kick him in the nuts. Josh cried out in pain.

"Come on," he said weakly to his followers. "Let's leave her alone." he said slowly standing up and limping out of sight.

"Yeah, you'd better run!" Angel shouted after them before dashing to the girl's side.

"You okay, honey?" Angel asked.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm fine." the new girl answered.

"I'm Angel." Angel introduced himself.

"An Angel just when I needed one! It must be my lucky day." The girl said, a slow smile spreading across her lips. Angel smiled back.

"I'm Katie."

"So, rough first day, huh?" Angel asked, the two of them now walking side by side to the buses.

"Yeah, but then I met an Angel and knew it was worth it." Katie answered. Angel smiled. He just knew Katie and him would turn out to be great friends.

"So, where'd you move from?" Angel asked.

"Newport." Katie answered.

"Ew. That prep school?"

"That's the one."

"Yuk. I had a friend who moved there - when I went to see her in the summer, she'd totally changed on my."

"Aw. That sucks. I HATED that school!" Katie said.

"Well. . .this is my bus." Angel said stopping in front of it.

"Bye. . .ooohh! Wait! You can call me!" Katie said. Angel looked at her. This was unbelievable. No onr had ever liked him enough to give him their phone number on the day they met him. The kids pulled out their cell phones and exchanged numbers. And just like that -

instant friends.

Two Months Later

The day school started after Winter Break Angel stopped Katie in the hall before she could get to her next class.

"Hey Katie, what's up? Have you been ignoring my calls?" Angel asked.

"I can't talk to you anymore, Angel." Katie said. Angel could feel the tears threatening to spill out of his eyes.

"Wh-wh-what do you mean?" Angel asked.

"Remember that day on break when you told me that you were gay over at my house?" Katie asked. Angel bit his lip nodding.

"Well, my dad heard. He doesn't think you're a good person to hang around. He's forbidden me to have any contact with you whatsoever." Katie said. Angel's heart broke into a million peices, tears now streaming down his face.

"Why -?"

"I'm sorry, Angel." Katie was crying now to. She turned around and proceeded to walk to class leaving poor Angel lost and hurt wondering what the fuck happened.
