He watched her walk away, her back to the TARDIS. A tear escape his right eye. He quickly and guiltily wiped it away. He would not let anyone see him in this moment of weakness, not even the TARDIS herself.
The TARDIS hummed sympathetically anyway.
"I know ol' girl, I'll miss her too."
He fiddled with the console, not quite ready to leave.
"Maybe I'll go for a walk," he announced to no one in particular. He excited the TARDIS doors into a play park. He sat on a bench, holding his head in his hands.
"The guy on the five dollar bill is staring at me."
The Doctor lifted his head to find a girl, about twelve, snapping her gum as she chewed it and staring at his pocket.
"Good ol' Sir Will. Nice man, sure knows how to party. Shame about the whole Boer war."
"The what?"
"Oh never mind." He put his head back in his hands.
"You knew Sir Wilfred Laurier?" she questioned further.
"Yup," he said, popping his 'p'.
"But wasn't he like… old?"
"Naw, knew him back in 1896. Nice man. Well, I'm using the term 'man' loosely."
"So 'e wasn't a man?" she asked, eyes wide.
"Well technically he was human…ish"
"Um…" she said, at a loss for words. "I'm gonna go get an ice cream, bye mister." She walked away slowly.
The Doctor jumped up and chased after her. "Here," he said. "My treat." He handed her the five dollar bill.
"Oh! Thank you mister!" She jumped up and down and hugged him.
Hmmm…he thought. Maybe chasing after people could do me good.
He ran to the TARDIS as fast as he could, leaving the prepubescent girl dumbfounded.
He unlocked the door. He bounded in and proceeded to leap around the console flicking switches and pressing buttons and pounding things with his handy-dandy hammer.
"Take me to see her ol' girl!"
The TARDIS hummed excitedly.
His magical machine appeared in her front room. He exited only to be accosted by her.
She flung her arms around his neck. "I knew you'd come."
"You did?"
"Of course."
