Tessa was wrecked. It was her best friend Sophie's wedding and she had gone wild on the wine. She was sitting alone at a table and somehow, everything was hilarious. She watched Sophie and Gideon dance with a stupid smile.
A dark haired boy with blue eyes sat next to her, holding a bottle of vodka.
"What a pretty girl like you is doing sitting on her own?" he said, leaning forward, with a smirk.
Tessa snorted.
"That's the best you can do?"
The boy nodded seriously.
"Well, I am very drunk."
He held out his hand.
"Will Herondale, my sister is the groom's sister-in-law."
Tessa shook it.
"Tessa Grey, the bride's maid of honor."
"Oh, I know who you are", he said. "You see those eyes?"
Tessa could see them alright. They were the most gorgeous eyes she had ever seen.
"Oh yeah", she answered, nodding seriously as well.
He smirked at her.
"Well, they're trained to sport beautiful girls sitting alone at their best friend's wedding."
Tessa laughed.
She suddenly felt really dizzy. She stood up with difficulty.
"I need to go to the bathroom…"
And she fainted.
She woke up what seemed to be a few seconds later, in Will's arms. He looked concern and seemed relieve to see she was alright.
"You fainted straight in my arms! You know if you wanted my attention, you didn't have to go to such extremes."
She raised her head to realize they were still on the move.
"Where are we going?" she asked confusingly.
"We're in a hotel, remember? I'm taking you to my room so you can recover. I assumed you didn't want to worry Sophie on her wedding night."
He stopped in front of a door and opened it.
"No", she answered, "no, you're right. Thank you."
He put her down on the bed with delicacy and sat by her side.
"How did you manage to carry me all this way?" Tessa asked. "You some kind of body builder?"
Will laughed.
"Some kind."
"Will?"
"Yes?"
"Can you run your fingers through my hair?"
He hesitated, as if he wasn't sure if it was crossing the line, but, eventually, he sighed gently and started playing in her hair.
"Where are you gonna sleep?" she asked.
"My best friend Jem has a room in the hotel as well", he answered. "We can share a bed. If I'm lucky, he might have even invited a bridesmaid. Everybody know it's not gay if it's in a three way.
Tessa slapped his arm which made Will laugh.
"Don't be silly…!"
"Oh you can come too, if you want", he interrupted. "The more people, the more fun. And if we're lucky we can all catch syphilis."
Tessa laughed.
"I'm not gonna steal your bed", she said. "You can sleep with me. Also I want you to play with my hair forever."
Will hesitated again.
"Are you sure? I don't wanna wake up next to Sarah Connor tomorrow if you don't remember who I am and why I'm here."
"Oh don't worry", she answered, "there's no chance I ever forget about you."
"Is that a good thing?"
"Of course it is."
Will laid beside her, with a smile on his lips that didn't leave him when he fell asleep.
