Meeting Maximum Ride

Vigg and Coix

Chapter 1

The School Once More

"When's dinner!? I'm so hungry, I can eat an Eraser." For anyone who is new, or just an idiot, Erasers are just like us. Like us, they morph into wolfs, like us, they aren't exactly human. Notice the sarcasm?

Well actually, we aren't human. I'd have to refer to myself as part animal. I'll get to that later. "Vigg, where's the paper?"

"Right here," my brother replied. "But Coix, make sure to check the front page." Vigg's voice sounded concerned. My brother and I got this special newspaper everyday that is written by Erasers.

As I expected, on the front page, there were six children. They looked ordinary, except for one thing, they had wings. The picture showed them in the sky, soaring higher than an airplane. Before I read the article, I knew one thing. They were in trouble.

I grabbed my bag and stuffed the paper in it. "Come on Vigg." Max and the others

need our help.

"Coix, they barely know us."

"They know us enough. You were in the Nudge's class, and I was with Fang and
Iggy."

"How do you know that's who they are? They had different names in school.

"We went over this already Vigg," I growled sternly. Wow, he can be such a pain in the…

Vigg just sighed. "Fine, but where are they?" Lucky for me, I skimmed it before putting it on the bottom of my bag.

"In the state, around Death Valley." Vigg's eyes widened, both of us knew the horrible things around there.

"Let's just head to the School then," I decided. "Come on Vigg, we're heading south."

I felt my claws lengthening and my lion mane growing. I looked beside me to see another lion. This one wasn't as big, and his mane was much smaller. Told you I'd get to it. That's right folks, my younger brother and I are 25% lion, and 75% human.

We started running down the hill that we lived on at full speed. The land around me was a blur and all I could see was the town below us. I knew better that to get caught.

"Turn left, now," I growled to Vigg. The two of us bolted up another hill. I looked up. We'd probably get to the School around dawn tomorrow. It was already around midnight now. And my estimate included breaks.

We ran for about an hour, and I saw Vigg begin to slow down. "Hey Coix, can we crash for a while?"

I nodded and slowed to a walk. Once we had caught our breaths, I rose up onto my hind legs and morphed back to human. My amber eyes looked around for some kind of shelter. "Over there, that tree." We sped over, tired from our quick run. Thanks to our lion abilities, we can climb easily, run fast, roar-which I never get tired of- and stalk prey, unseen in bushes. Not only that, we get comfortable in the most awkward positions.

The flock barely knew us, but we actually see each other a lot. Like us, we were raised in cages at the School and were used for multiple experiments. Like us, they were forced into this boring school. Like us, they're looking for their original parents. Like us, they were going to the School to save someone. They're after their little sister, Angel, and we're after them.

But really, they don't know we exist. That doesn't matter though, because we all have the same mission. They think it's to kick Eraser butt, but Vigg and I stayed at the School long enough to know what it really is. To destroy Itex, and to save the world.

It's mostly Maximum's job, but whether they know or not, want us to or not, care or not, we'll be there to help.
