We all knew this day would come.

When all hope would be lost, and freedom becomes just a distant memory.

I held my breath as I watched those walls crumble before my eyes, while something unspeakable came from the other side. I watched in horror as those monsters picked humans from the streets, crushing, tearing apart and devouring without mercy. They took my father, the only person I looked up to, and now the only thing I can hope for is my brother coming home. Somewhere in my mind I knew there was a possibility that he was taken, but I quickly shook that thought off. He has to come back home, no matter what. I grew more anxious with every second, while on the other hand, my mother still held that ice cold look in her eyes, as if nothing can get to her.

Finally, someone came through the door, and I couldn't describe how glad I felt that it was my brother, alive and well. "Brother we should go" he said. He always knew how to take control of the situation, and remain calm at that. Without any complaints, I grabbed the first thing to my hand, and surprisingly, it was ouour fathers dagger. Not that it could help us defend from titans, but still...

Mother protested, and brother was ready to argue with her. She wanted for us to wait for the police to take us to the inner wall. And brother was right, we weren't going to survive long enough for the pigs to come, we needed to move.

He stepped outside, and I wanted to follow, but mother grabbed me by the neck, screaming that we can't go together. Something came over me, I wasn't about to let anyone to separate us, not even our mother. And I was willing to fight for that. Channeling my anger, I threw a solid punch to her stomach, handed the dagger to my brother, and watched as he sliced her neck open, blood spilling from the wound. I could have sworn that in her last moments, her cold eyes became warmer, filling with tears, whille gripping the wound in attempt to stop the bleeding. I wish I felt something, but I didn't shed a tear.

"You deserved it" said my brother with a tear in his eye.

There was no time for sorrow, we'll mourn another day. We ran like mad, without looking back, towards the boat that can take us behind another wall. To safety.

Nothing can touch us now, we'll let our dreams carry us into another day.

I, Jillean will fight to protect my brother.
