"What the heck is a reen-go star?"

Hermione rolled her eyes and shook her head. "Ringo Starr. Whom, not what. And the whom happens to be a former Beatle." Her fiance stopped 'air-conducting' with his wand long enough to shoot her the blank look that had gotten them in nearly as much trouble through their school years as Harry's stubbornness and her own malleability. "A Beatle, Ronald. As in *the* Beatles." Still blank. She let out an explosive sigh. "Blood wizards. Absolutely clueless. For your information, *darling,* the Beatles were one of the greatest musical sensations in history--much as I love the wizarding world, you lot have nothing close to the Fab Four."

"O...kay... And why does this matter to me?" He'd gone back to waving, and she was glad to see him loving the mischievous sounds of TSO's "Wizards in Winter" as much as she did, although she was usually not quite so... active about it.

"Because he's going to be at Christmas dinner with my family, like I've told you three times. He's an old friend of my uncle, as it turns out, and since he didn't have any plans for the holiday, Uncle Seb invited him to come to dinner and said he could bring a guest. Seb didn't really think he'd say yes, but he did, and he's bringing a new friend from America."

"Girlfriend?"

"I really wouldn't know. All I was told was that she saved him from some sort of shark attack--he was surfing near where she and her family were vacationing, and either he didn't hear the warnings or he just ignored them; next thing anybody knew, this girl and her dog were rescuing him and scaring off an actual shark. So he invited her to England to visit, along with her dog, and now he's bringing her to dinner. So, since it's our last visit with my parents before the wedding, you might want to make an extra effort to remember everyone's name and at least be ready to make small talk."

The song ended, and he waved his wand at the CD player, magically changing the track. She had to hand it to him--his control had come leagues from where it had been a few years ago. "So what's the girltoy's name?"

"Ronald, be nice. The *young lady's* name is Jamie, and her dog's name is Lydia, and you're going to help me wrap the gifts we're giving them." Hermione was buried in stuff, her attention mostly on organizing gifts and packaging.

"Okay. Er... what did we get them?"

She pulled out the gifts. "I don't know what she likes, so I picked up a photo album--I hope green is okay with her--and a camera so she can take as many pictures as she likes of her trip here, and I got a toy for her puppy." Ron snickered as she pulled up a giant, densely stuffed snake, quirking a half-shrug and a sheepish grin. She saw his answering grin turn... warm. "Whatever are you up to?" It was only then that she noticed the song he'd chosen--"All I Want for Christmas is You."

He strode over to her, his expression skipping sizzling and going all the way to molten. "You told me to let you know when I knew what I wanted for Christmas. I'm letting you know." With that, he gestured up with his eyes, and she glanced up to find an enchanted mistletoe hovering over her head, glowing. She looked back at him, half-amused and half-exasperated, but he didn't give her a chance to speak before he claimed her mouth. Neither of them saw the golden fireworks show from the mistletoe; neither of them noticed much of anything for awhile.

Funny, that. ;)
