I come from the magical land of the sky.
Atop my purple mountains soar the eagle way up high.
Some say you can see smoke rising through the trees
but is merely mist floating in our breeze.
I can remember way back when I was two feet tall
The largest legend is of a man who stood out against all.
They say he made his home into a hole of rock
They forbid the locals to seek him and to him they never mock.
On a full moon I searched for him and soon found I was lost.
I knew I wanted to just see him once no matter what it cost.
I huddled under an old oak tree and hugged my knees in fright.
I should not have taken off so far into the deep dark night.
In the distance I could hear wild animals lurking near I looked each way into the darkness trying to face my deepest fear.
The clouds moved away and the moon glowed so I could see
A image of a giant bat soaring high above the tree.
A flap of wings flittered, and glittered above my head.
I gasped at the spectre wondering if I was dead.
He appeared a demon, a creature of the night
He landed like a animal crouched and prepared for fight.
I didn't dare breathe I didn't stand to flee
I just stood facing the dark ambiquity.
I watched him tilt his head in my direction
I knew I had not missed his shrewd means of detection.
With mighty steps he approached me with jetblackwings agape
They appeared to be swirling like a huge window drape.
I closed my eyes knowing I was told not to seek him out
I shuddered thinking of my life and wanted to scream to shout.
I planned to beg of him and tell him I was sorry
Then I heard a warm angels voice say "Dear child do not worry!"
His gloved hand wiped away the tears upon my face.
He lifted me into his arms and carried me to his place.
I cannot tell you all his said and what it may mean
He is not a legend, a myth or a dream.
He is our Prince of Peace when the wicked roam
He has decided to make Gotham as his home.
He is our protector , our Guardian , our Knight.
If you also question him look deep into the night.
In the shadows he will be watching, waiting to take flight.
He will stand vigilante to keep us safe from harm.
His honor is that he seeks no reward and that gives him his meek charm.
He is a man of justice, a man of a great creed.
He will only stop when there is no more need.
