He pulled out the broken Resurrection Stone, the one that Albus touched and cursed his hand with, from his robe pocket. It wasn't dangerous anymore, of that he was quite sure, but there still was a danger - it just wasn't the physical type.

Yes, he knew what would happen if he rolled it three times in his palm – his loved one would appear as it said in the story – if he even had a loved one. Lily, I have Lily. He thought to himself trying to build his self-esteem.

But does she know you love her? A voice echoed in his mind.

N-no….He replied.

Then why would she come? Why would she come to a poor, pathetic man who called her a Mudblood? You have nothing. You are nothing. The voice taunted. It sounded oddly like James Potter.

She will come! He told James confidently. But then his heart sank and he wondered if what Potter said was true. I hope…

James' voice laughed at him.

He gritted his teeth and looked down at the Stone. He frowned, his forehead furrowing together. It wasn't like him to hope for something, not since she died anyway. So why should he hope now? I shouldn't even bother….

He looked up at the dark trees and fog. The Forbidden Forest wasn't natural to any creature but those who lived in there, but somehow it felt natural to him. He could feel the darkness; he understood the darkness; he liked the darkness…

He was the darkness. And the feeling about being it brought back that lure the ached in his chest. It screamed to him to draw deeper into its power. It beckoned him that with darkness, he would get rid of Potter and claim Lily as his own…

"Stop it. Stop it right now Severus! She's not yours to claim, she never was." He told himself trying to dull the ache of darkness that swept his chest. "She's dead – and it's all because of you."

As much as he wished it wasn't so, he knew he was the one who ultimately killed her. He was a murderer, a traitor, a lair. And because of it he lived in a world of shadows where everything that he lived for slipped right from his hands and vanished into oblivion.

He shivered before he rolled it three times. Then, closed his eyes and waited.

"Severus." her voice rang through the fog.

"Lily." Severus replied.
