AN: Prompt 54 - "tower". Sora/Roxas friendship.
"You didn't have to come with me, Sora. I can fight, you know." As if to prove a point, Roxas whirled one of his keyblades, Oblivion, in the air.
"Where you go, I go. Besides, this crystal is for my weapon, so it's only fair."
They'd been searching for a particular crystal for a while, one that would enable the moogles in Radiant Garden to synthesise a better weapon for Sora. Recently, they'd heard rumours that it might be available by fighting some of the Nobodies in Yen Sid's tower. This involved a trip to Twilight Town. Roxas had insisted on going, because it meant he could see Hayner, Pence and Olette again, Sora declared he wasn't going alone, and the two of them had set off in the gummi ship, unbeknownst to Donald and Goofy.
Currently, they were climbing the stairs, battling the Nobodies that appeared. They'd collected hundreds of shards, dozens of stones and a handful of gems, but the elusive crystal was yet to appear. Roxas had faith that it would. Sora wasn't so sure.
"Perhaps we should just give up and go back. The others will be wondering where we are."
"You want to go back empty-handed?" Roxas turned to look at his Somebody in disbelief. "I didn't have you down as a quitter, Sora."
"I'm not, but we came here on the strength of a rumour." He sighed, and Roxas could see weariness in his eyes. Being the Keyblade Master was taking its toll on the teenager. Before Roxas could say anything, the ground shifted, sending him tumbling down a few steps. Sora's gasp, and sudden move to a fighting stance, told Roxas that this was no ordinary monster.
"This might be what we came here for, Sora!"
They fought the enormous Nobody, throwing potions and Cura spells in each other's direction whenever they needed it. It simply wouldn't do to be knocked unconscious now, not when they were so close. It seemed to take forever, but finally, the monster was gone, and Sora clutched a glowing crystal in his hand.
"We found it, Roxas!"
"We did. Now let's get out of here before another one of those things decides to attack us."
Somehow, they found enough energy to run back down the stairs. They didn't pause until they were safely on board the gummi ship, travelling through warp space back to Radiant Garden.
"We make a good team, don't we?" Roxas remarked.
"So we should. You are my Other, after all." Sora smiled, holding out his hand. Roxas took it, returning the smile.
