Those Three Words, and My Name
A Sequel to "A Man a Woman Could Count On"

Those three words, and my name, thought Daniel.
Finally, after all these months, you say it. And you mean it.
I can't even respond... your eyes have stolen my power of speech. You're glowing, Sam. I'm so glad you're happy.
You reach out for me, as I reached out for you...back then. You're not clinging to me in desperation...you've talked things over, worked things out. You're whole now...whole and free.
It's so good to hold you close, to feel you in my arms. Oh, yes. Never again will such time elapse, I promise you. Some day I will share how difficult it was, those months, waiting.
Your lips are soft, and eager... more full of promise than last time, when they quivered against my own. There is no hint of salt to taint them, this time. Open to me, Sam. Let our mouths mix and mingle and become one.
That small noise!? Jack? Jack, I'm so sorry...and yet I'm not. I cannot be. You have seen her strength of late, the person she has become. You will have to let her go, as she has, you.
No, baby, it's nothing. I'm back, I'm with you...so with you. Do you feel how much I want you? You must.
Every day I'll tell you I love you. If it gets tiresome in English, I'll switch to French, then to any language that has words for what I want to say, again and again. I will cherish you... love you not just in words, but with actions, every day of my life.
We break, we breathe, we look into each other's eyes and smile. I kiss you one more time, slowly and tenderly.
This was the way it was meant to be.
"I love you, too, Sam...so very much."
