I know the official backstory that the creators made for Ember is a bit different than what I have, but I wanted to make things more dramatic (who doesn't like more drama?), thus, this story was born! I did try to keep some elements from the original backstory, but some parts have been tweaked to match my interpretation of Ember's song.

I apologize in advance if anyone seems OOC. I haven't seen the show in a while, so my perception of the characters might be a little off.

Also, credit goes to my friend for beta-reading and fixing any blah writing I did.

"AAAAAHHHHH!"

The agonized shriek filled the crisp winter air, easily reaching the ears of a nearby ghost-boy. A cool mist slipped out of his mouth, not because of the cold, but as a sign of an incoming threat.

Danny gave an exasperated sigh at the sight before him. A familiar blue-haired ghost was playing her deadly guitar, sending a flurry of attacks towards a terrified woman in her mid-thirties. The house they were having their one-sided battle no longer resembled the home that it originally was. In its place were thousands of pieces of broken glass pane and piles of rubble that could be seen littered across the yard.

"Tormenting the innocent, again, Ember? Why can't you ghosts do something more productive, like, I dunno, knit a sweater for the homeless?" Danny said sarcastically, flying at full speed towards the commotion.

"Buzz off, dipstick. You're ruining my jam," Ember stated with a frown, obviously annoyed at the additional presence. But that frown soon turned into a smirk as she sent a powerful wave of sound towards the incoming halfa, causing him to cry as he was sent hurdling through the sky.

"And this girl is far from innocent," she added darkly, her eyes turning a bright green as she directed her gaze towards the frightened victim.

"Just leave me alone!" the woman cried out.

"And why would I do that?" Ember replied, flashing a menacing smile. "I rather enjoy our annual meetings."

"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!"

Ember crossed her arms in irritation. "I heard you the first thousand times you said it," the female ghost stated in a bored manner as she rolled her eyes at the pathetic human groveling before her. Narrowing her eyes, she added, "But it doesn't mean a thing."

"She said to leave. Her. ALONE!" Danny yelled as he unleashed an icy blast at Ember. Caught off guard, Ember was hit square in the chest, sending the surprised rock star crashing into the already crumbling building.

Arising from the debris, Ember's eyes glowed a dangerous crimson red. Steam started rising from her body as her natural heat dispersed any remaining traces of the ice. "You don't know who you're defending."

Danny began collecting his ghostly energy within his hands. "No. But I do know who I'm defending her against!" After his declaration, Danny released an array of ecto-energy balls towards Ember.

Unlike last time, Ember was prepared for this attack. She immediately changed the chords and slammed on her guitar strings, reflecting the energy balls with the power of sound waves and sending them back towards their creator.

Danny yelped in surprise as he barely managed to dodge his own attacks. After making sure there was no damage done to his body, Danny sighed in relief. But the moment of repose was short-lived when he realized Ember was still set on destroying the poor woman. Danny immediately charged straight towards the ghostly rock star, throwing out a battle cry to divert her attention from her original target.

Ember growled in frustration at the meddling ghost-boy.

You don't know anything.

Next chapter will be a flashback (a.k.a. the main story). The other chapter(s) won't be this short, it's only for the prologue.

Criticism, positive or negative, is greatly appreciated.
