"Logan!" Marie awoke with a start.

The room was empty. She was alone, and she suddenly had an unexpected urge to cry.

She got out of the chair and padded softly in to the hallway of the ship, and on to the kitchen.

"It's lonely here, without you," a voice said out of the darkness of the room, and she jumped. She turned around quickly, but no one was there.

"Hello?" she asked of the darkness, but there was no response.

"I love you, you know?" the voice said again, and this time she knew it was coming downstairs. She peered around the bend. There was a blinking light in the center of the room, and she crept toward it.

"Hello?" she asked again of the darkness, and again there was no response.

"You'll know later, I expect, when I'm gone. You'll remember me and think of me, and hopefully, you'll love me, too," the gruff voice was coming from the answering machine. She walked over to the blinking box and peered at the caller ID. It was Logan's cell. She made him keep the one that they had gotten from Scott's car, so he wouldn't have an excuse why he didn't call. 373 3397.

"B-baby?" she whispered, choking on her tears.

"Know I love you. For ever and ever and ever. You're my shining star, and nothing can take you away from me. I promise. Even if I'm move a thousand miles away from each other, I'll still love you, and I'll find some way to come back, no matter how hard it is. I love you."

The machine beeped, and the recording ended. It was only when she was staring at the blinking screen, tears pouring down her face, that she knew she had to go back.
