So this is obviously pretty short, but it was a request for Lightprincess14 and I had no idea how else to write this. She requested a story on Ash and Dawn reflecting on how they met and everything, and I'm not sure if this meets the requirement, but it's all I could write for it and actually be somewhat happy with the work.

Disclaimer: I do not own Pokemon, nor Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which the following quote belongs to.

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Ferris Bueller, Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Their story goes like this.

"You owe me a new bike."

"I owe a lot of people a new bike."

It's easy and simple because neither of them want to go that extra mile that means really saying goodbye.

It's not a fairy tale, but it does start with once upon a times.

"It never would have worked out between us."

"I know. I've got a few years on you."

It's a secret code for him to say that his heart belongs to someone else, even if she won't have it.

There are knights in shining armour and kingdoms and once and future kings.

"You're a great trainer, Ash. You'll make it to the top someday."

"Thanks. Same to you."

They both know they'll go far in life; that they will always rise to the occasion.

There's so much left to say, but no words to say it in. They sit in silence for so long, watching the sun set over the lonely mountains in the distance. One day they climbed those mountains because they had to get to the other side. Now, they could see that there was no real hurry.

She speaks what they've been too scared to say.

"Is this good-bye?"

"Only for now."

It makes a new question arise in her head, but she's too frightened to say it as boldly as the last. As they together, and the Illumise and Volbeat immerge, she reflects on their journey.

"Is this the end, Ash?"

He laughs, actually laughs, and Dawn can feel the burning feeling of humiliation and anger, but Ash just shakes his head.

"It's never the end, Dawn. It's always a new beginning."
