Pan walked into the kitchen, tapping her index fingers against each other nervously. She silently tip-toed around the corner to the room of delicate aromas, but that wasn't why she was heading there. Pan wanted to know about love. And the perfect person to talk about that, in Pan's experience, was Grandma Chichi.
"Hey, Grandma Chichi?" Pan asked for her attention. Chichi looked up from the pot of soup that was brewing.
"Yup, kiddo?"
Instinctively, Pan bit her bottom lip and suddenly became interested at her feet.
"What is it? Is something wrong?" Chichi set her wooden spoon down, wiped her hands on her apron, and walked up to Pan. "Are they not treating you right at the high school?"
"No, that's not it. I-I w-want to know-w the s-signs if a boy likes you," Pan said. She squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for Chichi's outburst, but it never came.
"My baby granddaughter is growing up!" Chichi cooed as she threw her arms around a surprised Pan. "Of course, but you better take notes! I'm only explaining this once!"
Pan smiled and quickly ran to grab the nearest pencil and paper. Then, she took a seat on the stool near the counter across from Chichi.
"Are you ready?" Chichi asked.
"Yes!"
"Okay, the first thing is if you catch them staring at you. They look at you, mystified. This is one of those signs," Chichi said.
"Yes, oh yes!" Pan mumbled excitedly as her hand flew across the paper that was ready to be filled.
"They want your beautiful face! Your flawless hair and –but wait," Chichi's tone changed, "If they ain't staring at your face and looking at something else, then smack them in the face! No, even better, KICK 'EM IN THE BALLS!"
"Of course! You are brilliant, Grandma!" Pan complimented. She meant it, too, even though she had no idea what 'something else' was since Chichi was so vague.
"Oh, you only learn from the best!" Chichi said nonchalantly as she waved it off like it was nothing.
"Gee, I think that's all I need to know now," Pan said as she looked at her notes which wasn't even filled half way. There was barely any writing at all.
"Okay, come back when you need anything," Chichi smiled and returned to her boiling pot of water.
"Thanks! See you tomorrow!" Pan hopped off the stool, paper and pencil in hand, and walked out next door to her own home. She was definitely excited to use these helpful tips of love from her beloved Grandma.
Later that night, Pan called up Marron and Bra, just to tell them about her love lessons.
"Grandma Chichi is giving me advice!" Pan said after Bra told them that she broke her arm.
"What?" Marron and Bra shouted into the phone.
"Yup! That's right! She told me if a guy likes you, he'll look at you, but if he looks somewhere other than your face, then you can 'kick 'em in the balls'!" Pan recited from her notes. "Ya hear that?"
They couldn't see each other, but Bra and Marron had blank expressions, but after a moment or two, they smiled and said, "I'm in too!"
"Okay, I'll ask Grandma Chichi tomorrow if we can all learn. I think you guys should call her Chichi-sensei, ya know? Since she's teaching and all," said Pan. "Oooh! And don't forget to bring some paper and a pencil! Chow!"
"Bye," Bra said.
"Good night," Marron told them.
