A/N: Episodic drabble with slight spoilers from the most recent episode.
I'll never know just how bad it hurt
She doesn't need to know where he was born or his middle name to know the way his eyes get dark when he's angry.
Juliet may knew his favorite color, and his ex-wife's middle name but she felt his blood on her fingertips and knows the way he smells, and the feel of his hands on her skin checking for bruises.
The others could probably write books on them all, listing inane facts, and stories from when they were in high school.
Kate knows Sayid's determination, and she remembers the way he grieved for Shannon. She knows the way terror looks on Claire's face, and how she glows while singing Aaron to sleep.
Kate has seen Sun cry over a missing ring, and she has watched Hurley laugh with Charlie.
Juliet may know who Sawyer used to be, and Kate can recognize a con-man, but she has witnessed his smiles and seen his compassion.
Jack once told her that when they came to this island they left behind who they were, and they were starting over.
They may know her crimes, but they don't know her.
She will let Juliet think she has the upper hand, because she knows his parent's names and the hospital he worked at in California.
Kate has ran from monsters with him, she has witnessed death, and she has seen hope fade from his eyes.
She has seen faith written across his brow. She has seen determination, and she has seen grief.
She has spent nights watching him breathe, and knows how his skin glows in fire light.
Kate knows what it's like to panic over his well being, and to hold him in her arms and pray to a god she doesn't believe in to keep him safe.
So the things that Juliet knows don't bother her.
Juliet may know why his wife left, but Kate knows that he fought to keep her, and Kate knows that his father passed away and he spent days trekking through the jungle after his ghost.
Kate knows that losing his wife, and losing his father have left him broken, have left him with the need and the desire to fix everyone he comes across.
She knows he will eventually patch Juliet up and send her away.
Kate will still be there because someone has to fix Jack. The first minutes she spent with Jack she was literally stitching him back together and Kate knows that means something.
So she smiles because Juliet can know Jack's past but Kate looks at him and see's her future.
