Bonjour, mes amis! I'm not sure if this counts as a drabble or not - it's short, I know, but it has been a while since I tried to write anything, so deal. Anyway, this started as a welcoming present to my best friend MelodiDam, who just joined us here on , but became very dark, and slightly depressing. Or maybe it's the other way around. To compensate, I should finally be posting the sequal to Titles and Treats, for those of you who have read it. That's right, the muse is back!

River set the last box into the back end of her truck and turned with a sigh to look back at her now empty apartment. As much as she had enjoyed living there, it was time for her to leave, and she knew it. She was going to make this easy for whoever would have to deal with it, and besides, her things were too precious to be sorted through by a solicitor anyway. So for now, her belongings would be moved into a storage facility, and locked tightly with a key that she would hide somewhere only he would find it, eventually. He may not know what it was, at first, but he would figure it out, sooner or later. He always did.

Maybe then, she thought, he might understand.

River moved once more through her former home, picking through the rooms to ensure that nothing was left, and letting her mind wander, remembering all the times they had spent here, together, and the times when they hadn't, and it was just her. She remembered the night he had taken her to the very first Elvis concert, and the time they had stayed in because she had caught a cold, and was in no mood to do what he wanted. That night, he did as she said, instead.

Finally, she thought back to the previous night, when he had shown up on her doorstep with flowers, wearing a brand new suit. He had taken her to the towers, that night.

They were beautiful, just as she had heard, and he had cried. River had pretended she didn't know why, that she thought he was crying because of the beauty, or with wonder.

She knew, though.

River Song always knew.

River Song knew he was crying because this was their last night together.

The last night before she died.
