The Twilight vs. Harry Potter Debate
These books/movies have captured the hearts of the world and sparked imagination and interest in reading. But, this topic has recently been debated, which is better: Twilight or Harry Potter?
Harry potter is a book that first came out in 1997 and was written by the famous author J.K. Rowling. this novel tells about a boy whose parents died at the hands of Voldemort. He lived in his uncle's closet under the staircase for 10 years until he starts receiving letters from a mysterious school called Hogwarts. When he goes, he learns things are never as it seems over a span of seven books.
Twilight is a novel written by Stephenie Meyer that was released in 2005. It tells of a ordinary human named Bella that falls in love with a vampire named Edward who is living with his 7-person coven, the Cullens. Along the way, The Cullen have to face many adventures to keep Bella safe, including fighting an army of newborns from Seattle.
Both of these stories are written with much thought and creativity. But the effectiveness of capturing the hearts of many are not just because of the plot. It needs to be well-written.
Harry Potter has continous material in each book. So lets go through the series slowly. I believe that this story would be considered well-written, even though it has its fair share of pros and cons.
While the details are terrific, I believe that to some new readers, Harry Potter might be a little hard to understand. They might have trouble around the concept of why harry potter was considered "The Chosen One". Harry could have been a normal boy and some one else could destroy Voldemort with a little effort. But, Harry was considered the chosen one because there was a prophecy made before he was born about him destroying Tom Riddle (A.K.A. Voldemort). But I think with a little more explanations from J., that the fans/readers, new and old would be able to fully understand Harry Potter and the effort put behind the writing of it.
Twilight was written by after she had a dream about Bella and Edward in the meadow. This romantic novel is lacking a few minor details. It never tells how Esme looks, except for that she looks motherly. I believe that Stephenie should have put more effort to describe things. Otherwise, the plot was great and easy to understand.
After analyzing these novels/movies, I can honestly say that it was hard to decide which was better. Here's the pros and cons:
Harry potter:
Pros: Tons of details
Cons: can be considered hard to understand
Twilight:
Pros: Easy to understand - good plot
Cons: missing a few minor details
my final decision is Twilight. its only con is it is missing a few details. People would much rather read a book without some details then have it hard to understand.
