"Come on Percy! It won't take that long, I promise" Annabeth pleaded, looking up at me with big grey eyes.

"OK, Wisegirl, but no longer than an hour, okay?" I warned before adding in a mutter, "I hate these places."

"I heard that. Now hurry up. The quicker you walk the quicker it's over." Annabeth explained. She was starting to get a bit annoyed now - I could tell by the colour of her eyes; they were getting stormier by the second.

"Fine," I huffed.

I should explain. Annabeth has decided to drag me to the mall. Well, I say decided, she does actually have a legitimate reason for bringing me here. She needs more paper and drawing equipment for her Mount Olympus designs, and me, being the oh-so-amazing boyfriend that I am thought it best to accompany her. It's not like she bribed me or anything… Okay, so maybe she did - so sue me! She gets her paper and I get a blue slushy. Everybody's happy.

By now we had reached the art shop and Annabeth was browsing through the shelves with a look of concentration and determination on her face. On anyone else it would have looked strange but on Annabeth it was endearing.

"Oi, Seaweed Brain! When you're done gawking like a guppy, you could actually help," Annabeth said without even raising her head. It's scary how well she knows me sometimes.

Sighing I headed down another aisle and started looking for the architectural paper that Annabeth likes.

"Annabeth, which one do you want again? There are like 7 different ones!" I called out. I was at a complete loss as to which one she wanted and my dyslexia was playing up more than usual today.

When I got no answer from the blonde, I called out again. "Annabeth?"

When there was no reply again, I started to worry a bit. Sure, it was like her to get absorbed in what she was doing, but normally she would at least deign my questions with a simple "Shut up a minute, Percy!" Today however, she did no such thing.

Rounding the corner into the aisle I last saw her in and was greeted by the sight of Annabeth crouched on the floor, dagger in had and glaring out of the shop window.

Following her gaze, I understood why she was currently in the stance she was in.

There in the middle of the food court was a hellhound.

Sighing, I pulled Riptide from my pocket and uncapped the pen's tip to reveal my celestial bronze sword.

I didn't even get my slushy.
