Kini Akela Waincroft

The tan born hawaiian gazed at the sea as her uncle's canoe bobbed on the waves. She knew that this day would come. Perhaps not this soon and definitely with her father bleeding out on a surgery table. Kini already had to say goodbye to her mother and now after her father newly dead she and her sister are being split up. Tears coming to the surface, the thirteen year old clutched the urn closer to her chest.

"Ipo, it's almost time." Chin Ho Kelly called out behind her from where he was paddling.

Kini gave a sad nod as she unscrewed her father's urn. This is not how she wanted to say goodbye. Her sister should be here, instead Sara was on her way to Mexico to their other Aunt and Uncle. When she felt the boat had come to a stop and was just floating freely, she gently poured her father's ashes into the ocean that surrounded her. Soon after she dipped her hand in to mix the ashes before setting her lai in the ocean to be drifted away with her father.

"Aloha, Father. We will see each other again soon." Kini told her father as the lai floated away from her. Chin stayed silent through the exchange. He knew this was something Kini had to do on her own.
