Absence of the Heart
CSI Nick/Sara
PG /Song-Fic Deana Carter Absence of the Heart
Can something so precious as love be found again?
As always, I do not own any of the characters nor do I take part in the show. CSI is a product of CBS.
Sara sat alone, tears smearing the little amount of makeup she had on. Glass had scattered all over the floor. Was he serious about living? He had gone to the bedroom to pack, but that didn't prove anything. All her life she had based everything on reason, science, evidence. She wasn't a "people person". He was. And although it doesn't seem like it those two issues alone separated her and him. But wasn't love supposed to be stronger than that?
I write you letters
But I don't send them
I just cant figure out how to end them
I try to reach you
Your right beside me
There's something missing and we cant deny that
We live together separately
We don't want to fall apart
But every time we kiss
There's an emptiness
An absence of the heart
To say that Nick was mad was definitely an understatement. How the argument started beat the hell out of him. They just lost it, started bringing up the bad. What was worse, it was their anniversary. As he lay on the bed a thought crossed his mind. What would happen if he did leave? Could things possible get better? They certainly couldn't get worse. It was over and as much as both hated to admit it the truth was right there. A surge of guilt hit him as he pictured her soft brown eyes so full of hurt and sadness. It was going to take forever to clean the apartment.
How did we loose it
Why did this happen
When did we take it all for granted
We sit in silence
Inside were crying
How can we keep our love from dying
We live together separately
We don't want to fall apart
But every time we kiss
There's an emptiness
An absence of the heart
Quietly Sara walked to the bedroom door. Should she knock? Realizing it might be their only hope she proceeded. At the exact moment Nick turned the door knob. As their eyes met a smile stretched across Nick's face. Sara quickly rushed into his open arms, quietly kissing him. That was it. Complete silence followed the night. Both understood that this was just the beginning. A long broken road was laid out before them. The only problem was a pack of scotch tape wouldn't fix it. Faithfulness, trust, and compassion could.
We live together separately
We don't want to fall apart
But every time we kiss
There's an emptiness
An absence of the heart
Two nights later Nick was lost. The room was so quiet, empty, shallow without her. She had accepted a transfer to California. She told him that it would be a good change. They didn't need to divorce, just take a break. He knew though. Sara couldn't handle the thought of a relationship being permanent. No strings to tie her down. As he sat with paper and pencil in hand the words he wanted to say were lost. Finally he gave up throwing the letter away. He wasn't going to beg her for anything. If she had any goodness left in her she'd come home. Back to him, back to life, back to normal.

But every time we kiss there's an emptiness
An absence of the heart

But I don't send them
