Chapter One
I sat there hugging my pillow, as I tried to get the noises of gunshots out of my head. I tried even harder to get the image of me holding her in my arms as she died. I knew she had whispered to me in her last seconds, but I missed it. I sat there trying to figure out what she could have said to me. Saying to myself, "What would Cherry Valance say to me in her last seconds of life?"
"Pony! I need you to take out the trash!" Darry yelled across the house.
"I'm comin'!" I yelled back. As I was walking out the door of my bedroom, something hit me. Before the drive-by-shooting Cherry said she wanted to talk me, talk to me about something like, feelings maybe? I stood in the doorway thinking…than Darry's loud, booming voice ran across the house again. I decided I better take the trash out before Darry has a calf.
Five Days Ago
"That was a good movie."
"Yeah it was. Thanks for gettin' me out house Pony. Ever since these murders in the town, I've been in the house every weekend."
"No problem. Darry barely even come. You know how he is, always making sure I'm safe."
"That's what makes him a good, older brother. He is always looking out for you and Soda."
"Yea, I guess. So, do you want to go and get something to eat? I'll buy."
"I would love to, but I can't. I have lots of homework for Math and English. Maybe some other time?"
"Yeah, sure. See you on Monday?"
"Definitely." Cherry said this with a big smile on her face.
As Pony and Cherry walked their separate ways, a car drove by and the passenger started shooting like crazy. Pony ducks and turns around and sees Cherry Valance lying on the ground with a pool of blood surrounding her. Pony screams and runs towards her, when he reaches Cherry she's barely breathing, coughing up blood, and crying. Pony picks her up to where he's just able to hold her up. She tries to say something, but takes one last breath, coughs, and she goes limp. Pony starts crying even harder and kisses her forehead
The ambulance gets there, they put Cherry on a stretcher and cover her with a white sheet. Pony just walks home, kicking rocks with tears in his eyes. When he gets home he just walks to his room, lays down, and slowly falls asleep.
