AN-Hello Robin Hood fandom. This was a challenge that I found in a magazine and thought 'I HAVE to do this!' This is a little AU 500 words (exactly according to Word) one shot reflecting on Marian's life... Please remember this is completely AU (I couldn't remember the ending or anything of Robin Hood-SORRY!)
I don't own BBC Robin Hood.
A woman sat on the bench, invisible to all, listening attentively while the guide escorted a group of tourists around the castle, that nobody truly knew what happened in its stone walls, only a few legends that had been told and retold over centuries, slowly corrupting the actual tale that happened.
Love.
Betrayal.
Loss.
Friendship.
War.
Corruption.
She knew what had happened all those years ago, but somebody would put her in a mental asylum if they ever knew, so she hid and listened as the world continued to change around her, the pace too fast as everything blurred around her; her life still stationary, unyielding to the curse that had been placed upon her.
She missed them all. They were murdered viciously in front of her eyes as she promised to never let the Sheriff know, never realising that they were already captured, and ready for their heads to be placed on the chopping blocks.
What she wouldn't do to join them on the wooden blocks, yet she tried. She tried several times to take her life, only leaving her body marked with bruises and scars, but her body carried on breathing in life, continuing her suffering.
She begged to God to let her be; let her die and join her love, but she was never allowed her wish.
That was long ago.
She now protected the land around the castle in the North, never letting it perish and leaving the memories whether evil or pure; diluted or vivid, to live on. She now worked, looking after the architecture.
"... He got himself killed by the Sheriff, finally caught. The rest of the other outlaws were also executed on the same day, showing the people what would happen if they went up against the state. It supposedly happened in this very courtyard, over seven hundred years ago."
And the guide was correct. It was this very courtyard that Robin was slaughtered before her, his head rolling over the cobbled stones, leaving a pathway of dark blood, still warm. Screams and shouts were made seeing how the Sheriff treated his body after that, marking the dead body and then dumped it into a ditch to rot, the smell encompassing the land.
When the King arrived back, the Sheriff was promptly executed for his many crimes.
It bought a small piece of satisfaction. But it didn't stop the pain that poisoned her blood, turning the once happy person that she was into a colder woman, denying help to those who needed it.
She was denied the help that she so desperately needed.
"The Lady Marian died shortly, committing suicide. She was found dead in her chambers the very same night by her maidservant."
Yet here she was.
If life were ever simple, life would be either black or white and there would be no gray nor varying shades of it.
Nothing mattered anymore.
So, with that last thought, the ghost of Lady Marian walked away from the castle, tears falling silently.
