After coming back from the time portal into which Noda sensei took them, what if Mikan and Natsume are separated during the war with the elementary school principal and are subjected to all kinds of tortures and have no hope of being united. In that case what are their feelings and how they long for each other is being portrayed in the poem below.
Here I stand
Swaying to the winds of time
Some abrupt, some steady
As long as life could offer
I stand
Fighting through, for existence
Until death do us part.
I suffer but I swear
I would never give up
The smile those winds brought
Here I stand,
At the shore
Figuring out the distance and depth
Believing and hoping for that someday
Being strong enough to close
At least the human distance
Balancing both fire and ice in this heart
Each trying to extinguish the other
Don't know how long I can hold them both
But still I stand here
Waiting
Feeling the fluid currents under my feet
Exploring the banks filled with empty shells and drift wood pieces
As if the most happiest person in the world
I smile at my reflection, sour
Ahead was the beautiful breaking dusk
But I still wander around, as the midnight sun shines
Running and tracing the path again and again
The hidden tears threatening to spill
To destroy the most important unwanted reality
But still here I stand
Waiting
Rapid thumping heart cased in a vulnerable cage
Once bounced up with energy
Stopped forever
Beyond repair it is
Are you willing to accept
The defective good altogether
Can't see you regret later
But still here I stand
Waiting
