You know, whenever I write something about the angels in heaven before Lucifer fell, they always look like teenagers in my mind. So cute too! Anyway, here's my next piece of work.
Disclaimer: I do not own Supernatural or "Never Gonna Be Alone" by Nickelback.
Warnings: Song fic, Gabriel and Michael as main characters. Slash if you squint, but can be read as innocent brotherly love. Pre-series. Un-betaed (I don't have a beta). One-shot.
Michael did it. He cast Lucifer out of heaven, placing him in the fiery depths of Hell just 'because Dad said so. Heaven turned bitter after that. Michael was avoided from respect or fear, or even disdain. The warmth of the Morningstar was missing. Gabriel sat in a tree in the middle of a vast forest. This was his favorite place in heaven. He blended in, his grace wrapped around a branch to keep him in place, his honey colored wings weaving through green leaves. Gabe was thinking of the past, regretting the time he was too scared to approach Lucifer and ask him to play. One day he was the awkward cherub, the next he was an archangel, and watching as Michael threw Lucifer out the pearly gates. Now here he was sitting in a tree. He wanted nothing more than to disappear. Gabriel pushed down his emotions, bottling them inside. The fear (of what heaven was becoming), the sorrow (for Lucifer's fall, the loss of a brother), and worse than anything, the loneliness. Gabriel had settled into the sense that he was ultimately alone now (except for his father, but God was a busy man. Gabriel couldn't bother him because he wanted a friend). Heaven was disintegrating, and yet still firmly in place. A tendril of grace brushed against Gabriel's. Spinning, he saw it had belonged to his brother Michael. Although Michael's grace was no longer touching his, Gabriel knew his brother's feelings. Michael was sorrowful, but not regretful, and lonely. He was oh, so lonely. Gabriel wanted to cry for them. How had it come to this? Angels seeking solace they would not find, Eden wilting plant by plant. Then Gabriel's emotional floodgates broke, and he wrapped his grace around Michael, babbling and weeping. Michael, unexpecting, struggled for a moment before realizing Gabriel meant no harm, and settled in to wait for Gabriel to calm down. Then Gabriel said something to Michael, and that something made Michael's grace flutter with hope. Gabriel sang to him, the lyrics of the song comforting and relieving them both. Their father smiled down at the two unknowing brothers as Michael joined in the song. And they sang together:
"You're never gonna be alone,
From this moment on.
If you ever feel like letting go,
I won't let you fall.
When all hope is gone,
Know that you can carry on."
They stopped, and Gabriel's grace was still wrapped around Michael. They stayed together for a while, both knowing they would never be alone again.
Aww. So sweet. Not my best writing though. Hope you enjoyed! Please review! Please! You can make a difference in my life, no matter what you write! Use the power of Review Button!
