Donald Flack Jr. stood breathing heavily; his arms felt like lead against his side and he could feel the sweat trickling down his back. This was definitely not the type of fight he preferred. Returning his attention to the job at hand he stopped short. The sound of a large truck broke the silence and caused the detective to frown. It was turning onto his street and bearing down towards him. Jumping back onto the curb, the truck rumbled by him and then was gone. He surveyed the scene in front of him and shook his head in disgust. The last twenty-minutes had been a total waste. The snow that he had shoveled from around his car was now pushed back into its original place and also included additional from the roadway.

He freed the shovel from the snow and turned back towards his apartment. He had some vacation time that he could use and there was nothing on his desk that couldn't wait for a day or two. Entering the lobby he shook snow from his coat and pulled out his cellphone. Hitting speed dial he waited until he heard a familiar voice. "Stella, are they hiring down there?"

Author's notes:

Of course I do not own CSI:NY or anything relating to it. Watching the news today I felt bad for the citizens on the East coast. We had 10 inches of snow Christmas Eve, but we get really used to it here in the Midwest. Stay safe New Yorkers.
