Christmas Feeling

The Christmas tree's barren,

Bells are un-rung.

Even here in this dwelling,

Above filthy slums.

...

The drains are clogged,

The water's been blocked.

Food's at a premium,

It's of limited stock.

...

Out beyond the city,

The Earth's been scorched bare.

Even at Christmas,

What runs rife is despair.

...

Dry winds blow fiercely,

Santa's closed his shop.

There's no green left,

Not forests or crops.

...

And yet on this day,

The family laughs.

Best wishes are uttered,

Presents are passed.

...

The apartment's lights flicker,

Yet they see what they need.

Appreciate what they have,

Don't give into greed.

...

The world's lost much hope,

Yet remains in play.

Especially now,

On Christmas Day.
