Behind Enemy Lines
Section 1
"Sickle, is it clear?" is all that can be heard in the thick, green forests of Peru. There are no noises or movements of who said this. It is someone who can kill from a mile away and never be spotted. It is someone who can infiltrate an enemy base undetected and terminate an officer without raising the alarm. It is an American Delta Force Sniper. Nikolai "Hammer" Kuznetsov and his partner, Artyom "Sickle" Soknoz, were not in Peru on vacation; they were there to kill Macario Roldán, an infamous Peruvian Drug Cartel leader.
Nikolai and Artyom are both Russian immigrants who joined the US Army; later in their careers they were accepted into Delta Force. Nikolai isn't married, but he is dating a beautiful blonde-haired girl named Viktoriya. In fact, once he gets back home from deployment, he is going to ask her to marry him. Artyom, on the other hand, is married to Anistasiya Soknoz and has two wonderful daughters named Nina and Agata. Neither of the Snipers have seen their families for five months. If they were on a base or at HQ, they could have sent and received letters and phone calls. Unfortunately, this is combat; there's no time for pleasantries on the battlefield.
"Negative, Hammer. Two tangos at eleven o'clock," Sickle whispered over the radio.
"I can't make visual contact" Nikolai said as he crawled through the forest's tall grass. When he made his way around a tall, thick tree, he saw them. Two Cartel members grasping AK-47s and clothed in guayaberas and jeans. "Never-mind, Sickle, I see them. I'll take the one on the right."
"Roger. On the count of three… One… Two… Three…" they pulled their triggers simultaneously and the bullets left the barrels of the rifles and pierced the skulls of the two men killing them instantly. The rifles were equipped with suppressors which reduced the noise of their shots allowing them to kill quietly. The snipers looked to see if anyone noticed the untimely deaths of the Cartel members. They dashed out of their concealment and dragged the lifeless bodies into the grass; spreading dirt and leaves over the bloody puddles as they disappeared into the forest. They were half a klick away from their target… Roldán.
