I slowly ride down the air currents. I hit the ground running and I tuck in my wings.

"Fang!" I screech.

I hear no answer from him. Just the wind. Dust clouds fly up into my eyes making them sting and water. I can't tell whether it's from that or the fact that he's gone. I'll never have him again.

I run for forever it seems like. Finally I hear a weak groan. I spin around trying to find where it came from.

"Fang?" I ask hesitantly now.

"Max." I hear the coarse whisper.

I walk toward the sound of his voice.

"Keep talking." I command him.

"Okay. Max, I'm dying. I was shot by something and I can feel myself slipping away."

A couple tears drip down my face.

"Everything's cold. Too cold. Even though it's what 100 degrees? Max, it hurts. Everything hurts. Don't leave me ever."

I can't see now and I swipe at my eyes angrily.

"Maximum."

I almost step on him. His wings are spread out and twisted awkwardly and he's so pale. His black hair sticks up and he stares at me with those mesmerizing eyes.

"Fang. Oh, Fang." I moan and sink to my knees. I pull him to me and cradle his head on my lap.

"Max. You didn't stop searching did you?" He asks softly.

"I knew something was wrong. I could feel it. I also knew you were here." I mutter.

"I'm almost gone, Max."

I yelp in pain.

"Let me go, Max. It hurts to see your beautiful face as I slip away. It hurts to see you with Dylan. It hurts to see the Flock. It hurts to see Angel betray us but yet betray the enemy."

"I can make it better. Trust me, Fang. I can make everything better for you and me. We can find a home someday and live in peace."

"Max," He smiles, "I love you. I love you more than I love myself. You are beautiful and worth everything in the world. I love you, Maximum."

"I love you too, Fang." I whisper.

He stretches a hand out to my face and pulls it to his. He kisses me long and deep. And then he turns cold.

I weep as his eyes close. With a broken heart I pick him up and fly away.
