Wallace glanced over at the pudgy hiker who was clearly enjoying his plateful of trout.
"That poor creature gave its life to nourish ours."
"Shhh…"
Steven felt the same way whenever he noticed garbage littering a mountain path or bordering a lost creek. Their shared environmental compassion for nature is what helped draw them together in the first place.
Steven smiled furtively when the waiter brought the herb salads. To keep Wallace around, it was always wiser to go vegetarian.
