Disclaimer: Do not own Labyrinth.

Firelight flicker off of the crystals in the cavern chamber. An eerie melody whisper at the edges of his hearing, seeming to grow stronger as he approached the center.

"Sarah." He halted before the stone bed, and the woman-child whose form was frozen by time.

"Why did you have to win?" His hand reached out for hers feeling the dim warmth that was caused by her dreaming.

"I would have turned the world upside down for you." His other hand traced through the dark silk of her hair, only to caress her face. Her vivid eyes were closed. He wanted to curse at the Labyrinth for what it has done. Any dreamer would have done…Why must it be Sarah?

He already knew the answer. She had won. Had destroyed whatever power he had over her, power that would keep her safe from the Labyrinth.

"You always thought I was in complete control." He waved stone chair into being, settling down to sit next to her. The cold breeze didn't even register in his mind. "I'm as much of a puppet as you."

How had he managed to grow so weak? That now he was controlled by that of which he was master of? The Maze always had its way, whether he was the one to ensnare her to stay, or if the Labyrinth itself would enforce her to stay. The magic had been dying, magic based on the dreams of its inhabitants. When had the Fae stop dreaming? Did eternities of existent steal that away? Giving it to their mortal kin?

"I wish…" He halted, surprise at his own words. To give his people back dreams and magic was one thing, for himself to be able to form a wish. Even if it were the unfinished whisper of one. He eyed the girl, almost amazed.

"You precious thing." She was so still, so trap in dreaming. He brought a crystal to his hand with a wave of glitter, a curiosity arising.

"Show me her dreams." Images flash within the sphere, her journey through the Labyrinth. Again. She should have turned back, before it was too late. She never should have reached the city.

"Didn't you know…" He spoke to the reflection of the determined adolescent that was racing through the corridors of his castle. "Once you reached the center." He waved the crystal away. His eyes were on the raw crystals that pieced the ground, some dangling like ornaments from the ceiling. Was it so beautiful? This very heart of the Labyrinth, that lied beneath his castle.

"You'll never leave again."
