West Terros High

Part 1

Dany Targaryen buttoned up her first day of school outfit, but let her dragon tattoo peek out just a bit out of her sock. Dany loved dragons. She had a dragon tattoo on her ankle and another one that no one knew about, on her back, with a particularly vicious looking black-dragon breathing fire that reached up her back to the bottom of her neck. Her room was plastered with dragon posters and she swears dragons once used to be real. She liked books and movies with dragons. Her favorite series was about a girl, destined to be queen of a fantasy realm, who used dragons of her own to take over her kingdom! It was so cool! Some might call Dany a nerd, but she didn't care. She loved what she did and had big plans for her time here.

Today was her first day of school. Her parents were mysterious, wealthy, and nearly non-existent, and didn't believe in the public school system, so she had been homeschooled her entire life. Her brother, Viserys, on the other hand, had been sent to a boarding school far away after her parents discovered what a nasty twerp he was. It didn't change much, but they decided it was time to "assimilate" them into normal teenage life. Neither of them had many friends, although Dany didn't expect her brother to. He was a classic douche. He would probably fit in perfectly well at normal high school. Dany had heard rumors of real high school, being a brutal sort of place… the you win, and have friends and become popular, or you die sort of thing. Whatever. She got in her car that her parents got for her 16th birthday after they remembered it a week later and made her first journey to West Terros High, her brother, Viserys, put his nasty, scuffy shoes up on her clean dashboard, but Dany didn't bother trying to tell him to put them down. He smirked silently the whole ride there.

Upon arrival, the two got out of the car and walked to the administration office. They were greeted by a Mr. Baelish, who gave Dany a creepy smile, and welcomed the them into his office to fill out some new student forms. Dany looked at some of the questions:

"What are your primary goals here at West Terros?" "Do you have any enemies?" "What is your deepest darkest secret?" "How do you react to violence?"

"Umm…. What am I supposed to put for these," Dany questioned him, confused. Mr. Baelish chuckled.

"Ah… pay no attention. Just a.. personality test of a sort!" He smiled his creepy smile again. "Here are your schedules. Enjoy your first day at West Terros!"

Dany shrugged and looked at her schedule. First class of the day, P.E! She walked around the school, a tad confused, as students scurried around her, slamming lockers, rushing to class. Looking down at her school map and turning a corner, she ran straight into the mid-chest of a really, really, big and tall guy. He wasn't big like fat, he was big like… muscular big. He had one of those hipster horse shirts on, and cutoff jean shorts. His massively curly hair was a little too long for dress code.

"I'm sorry!" said a flustered Dany. The boy glared at her for a few seconds, and then his mouth twisted into a half smile. He was a bit alarming. Dany flashed a fake grin and nod and ran off quickly.

A couple of minutes late, she made it to the gym. The only person in the room was a massive middle-aged man. He frowned at her, "you the new kid? Everyone already went to change. Hurrrrrrry up." He pointed to a door leading to the women's locker room. The viper's nest. This was it… Dany opened the door and everyone stared at her for a few seconds, and went back to chatting.

"Hi guys!" Dany said brightly. "Anyone got any extra gym shorts?" She smiled. No one said anything. This was awkward. How were you supposed to talk to high school girls? She was one of them! Right? Finally, a tall, beautiful blonde smiled and grabbed took her arm into hers, walked her to the other side of the room, and put a pair of shorts in her arms. She seemed cool!

"Thank you! This is so nice of you! I don't know why everyone keeps staring at me. It's my first day, and people here are just really weird, and I don't know no one is friendly?" Dany took a breath. The girl just smiled again.

"Yeah… yeah," said the blonde girl distantly, still just staring at Dany. She shook her head and giggled. "It's an… interesting school. People aren't… nice here. You'll see how thins work. Now, who exactly are you?"

"Not nice…? Uh, okay. I'm Dany Targaryen. I'm a senior. I just transferred. Today is my first day! What's your name?"

"Cersei. Let me see your schedule." said the blonde girl. So this was Cersei. Dany had heard her name before, from her cousin, Rhaegar who went to this school last year, and was not-so-mysteriously kicked out. This is who Dany needed to befriend. Dany changed into her shorts, and she saw Cersei catch a glimpse of her dragon tattoo. "Um, what is that," she asked.

"It's a dragon! I got it at last year's DragonCon!" Dany said excitedly. Maybe Cersei liked this stuff too!

"El-Oh-El!" Cersei said sarcastically, and then muttered, "freak." She smiled again, and grabbed Dany's arm. "You're in AP Chemistry, AP Math and AP Bio? What are you, some kind of nerd?" Dany frowned.

"No! I… I was homeschooled so I had a lot of time to study, but-"

"Homeschooled? That's, like, so adorable! Have you ever hung out with girls your age before? Oh, God, Dany. You'll never fit in here. I'll help you out though." She smiled again, except it wasn't sweet like it was the first time. She took Dany's arm and they walked out into the gym together.

"New girl, YOU'RE LATE!" said the gym teacher.

"Oh my God, I'm SO sorry Mr. Baratheon! It was totally my fault, I was just trying to help Dany find some gym clothes that fit her!" She flipped her hair.

"Ah… alright Cersei. That's fine. Very sweet of you," he grunted. Cersei winked at Dany. "Alright, everyone, settle down. We're playing the game of cones today!" All of the students cheered.

Cersei whispered to Dany, "that's like, capture the flag, but we use cones out on the field. It's everyone's favorite, because the athletic kids do all the work." They filed outside, and the athletic kids set up the game. Dany stood in the back with a few other girls next to Cersei. Another girl popped next to Cersei.

"Ohhhh my god. Look how cute he is today." The girl sighed and watched a small blonde boy run around the field.

"Marge, you need to go talk to him. Your pining isn't going to make him break up with Sansa. Do something about it!" Cersei rolled her eyes. "Oh! Also meet the new girl. Dany. She likes dragons and she was homeschooled, but she's also like, really pretty. Doesn't she sound fun?" Marg laughed. All that Dany heard was that she was pretty. Could this mean she could be cool? Dany put her hand out to shake Marge's.

"Hey! So nice to meet you!" Dany said excitedly. Another new friend!

"Um… hey! So like, any cute boys yet?"

"No? I guess that guy over there is kind of cute…" Dany pointed to a dark haired boy standing to the side of the game.

Cersei laughed. "Oh my god Dany… You can't like him. That's Jon. He's like, the weirdest ever. Even weirder than his idiot brothers," said Marge. "Ew!"

"Hah, okay," Dany faked a giggle. She guessed she just didn't know what was cool here. "I ran into this guy earlier today. He was massive and a total hipster! Kind of scary, but not bad looking though!"

Cersei scoffed. "Was he wearing a horse t-shirt?"

"Yeah! He was! And jean shorts!" Dany saw Marge laughing, and started to laugh with her, but Marge continued to cackle wildly until Cersei glared at her.

"Shut UP, Marge." Marge frowned and sat on the grass and played with some little flowers. "God. Anyway, he's kind of a weirdo too, Dany. And like, don't get me wrong, I totally love weird people. I'm nice. I can tell that you and I are going to be friends. This horse guy you ran into, Drogo, he's dangerous. I heard…" she trailed off and shook her head.

"What!" said Dany. What on earth could this guy have done…?

"Alright. I'm not supposed to tell anyone this, but I heard that he is basically homeless and went to jail last year for who KNOWS what! He just came back this year. I think he's a senior. Stay away from him, Dany."

Dany nodded. The bell rang just as the scrawny blonde boy Marge was looking at tripped and fell just before trying to grab their team's cone. Marge and Cersei instantly ran off, and yelled, "See you at lunch girl!" to Dany. Okay, so P.E. was weird. The girls seemed like they wanted to be her friend… but she hadn't had a real girl friend since she was a little girl. Maybe this was how girl friendships were? In any case, they seemed to be pretty cool. She looked at her schedule. Next up was chemistry. She had remembered walking by the chemistry room earlier, so she found it okay this time, and even got there a little bit early. There were only two kids already in the classroom- a readhead girl wearing ironic hipster glasses, and that guy she ran into earlier that Cersei had warned her about, Drogo, she remembered. She didn't look at Drogo, and went to sit next to the redhead girl. They sat in silence for a few minutes until the girl said,

"Heyyyy. I'm Sansa," she said coolly.

"Oh! Hi! I'm Dany! Today is my first day!"

Sansa laughed. "I thought as much. This school isn't that big. And you just look kind of… nervous." She scanned Dany up and down. "Nice tattoo." Dany was about to answer a hearty 'thank you,' when, the scrawny blonde boy walked in, kicking a few desks out of the way as he walked over and sat right next to Sansa.

He raised his eyebrows. "Hey babe. You. Look. SO good today." He poked her in the arm. She poked him back. Sansa giggled and blushed. Oh my god, thought Dany. Not so cool anymore…

"Jofffff. Stop. Class is starting soon!"

"Class is for dumbasses, like him, sweetie," Joff nodded back at where Drogo was in the back of the class. "Let's play hookie today. We can go to the other parking lot and just hang out for a little while…."

Sansa giggled again, and rolled her eyes. "Joff, come on, no. We have our test this week!" He poked her again, and grabbed her hand. "Noooo. Stop." She pulled away. Also, this is Dany. She's new." Joff winked at Dany, and turned back to Sansa.

"Ughgh. You're being a serious bitchhhh," muttered Joff, just as the teacher walked in. Dany sat through an hour of this chemistry class watching Joff pass Sansa what seemed to be inappropriate notes while simultaneously looking trying to look at whatever answers were on her homework sheet to be turned in at the end of class. Dany frowned to herself. What is wrong with these people. Her next few classes were uneventful, but she was really looking forward to lunch with Cersei and Marge. The lunch bell rang and she found them already sitting together at a table in the middle of the lunch room.

"Hi guys!" said Dany, sitting down.

"Ah, Dany. We were waiting for you," smiled Cersei in her sweet, but also not-so-sweet smile. "How was the rest of your day? Any other new friends?"

"Uhh, I met a girl named Sansa, and this guy she is with I guess. Joff?"

Cersei and Marge exchanged a meaningful look. "Um, ew," said Cersei. "Did they talk to you? Did they talk to each other?"

"Yeah, Sansa introduced herself to me. She seemed nice! But that guy Joff was kind of weird…"

"DUH! He's a complete asshole. Serves him right to be with Sansa." Cersei said her name with detectable malice.

"What's wrong with her?" asked Dany, innocently.

"She's just not a nice girl," said Cersei innocently. "I wouldn't lie to you. I mean, it's really amazing that Joff still likes her. Especially when he totally led on poor Marge here… and Marge is just so much prettier." Marge beamed. "Let me at least tell you this Dany. If you get mixed up with Sansa, and either of her two idiot brothers, you WILL be burned at this school. Just trust us and stay away from them. Joff will come to his senses soon enough… I'll see to that. No worries there, Marge." She patted her friend on the back sweetly.

Marge lit up and said, "Oh my god, Cersei, I forgot to tell you, at our student council meeting we decided that homecoming queen and king nominations are happening TWO weeks from Friday! Jaime said they couldn't push forward any more…"

"Hm," said Cersei. "Like it matters. This has been coming for me since the day I walked into this school. People can take all the time they need to think about it."

"Think about what?" asked Dany.

"Homecoming queen. Duh. And king I guess."

"Is that like a big deal here? I thought that was just a stupid popularity contest kind of thing that you saw on TV… but it wasn't really like that…" Dany was beginning to see that she was very wrong about West Terros High.

"Um, no Dany. Obviously, I will be homecoming queen. The winners even get to pick the school's new mascot. And it is a big deal here. I don't know what kind of high school you thought you were coming to, but this is it Dany. You can't just… be best friends with everyone. It's not a nice place, where we come to 'figure out who we are,' and 'meet people different than us!' The only reason you're still with us, is that you haven't shown any inclination to join a different group. You choose a group, Dany. And then we choose our homecoming queen. And you win, or you die." Cersei's eyes were ice. She must have thought Dany was about to burst into tears because she added, "Oh, not LITERALLY die. God, Dany. But yes. Choose wisely, dragon freak, because I don't think you want to be on the other side of me."
