This is a story that just struck me and was written in less than an hour - I'd really love if you'd give it a chance anyways.

Enjoy!

"Not that you've gotta, go modern."

Honestly, she hadn't really thought about it. Sure, she'd imagined marrying the man of her dreams, but taking his name?

She liked her name, one of the few things that had followed her all the way through life… something stable, something that wouldn't change - unless, of course, she changed it.

She sat down on the lumpy couch in her own living room, watching as Paul Anka the dog (That's what she'd decided to call him) taking a brief look at his newly purchased toys, before heading for the shoe rack.

Lorelai Gilmore - no, Lorelai Victoria Gilmore - that was her. And she liked who she was. She knew that, even if she did change her last name, she'd still be her, and she knew that it was a silly thing to worry about - she should be worrying about things like her falling-out with Rory, and telling her parents about the engagement but, somehow, this seemed more important right at the moment.

She looked at all the framed pictures in her house - only a couple of them did not contain her daughter. One of them was a picture of herself at about ten years of age, standing outside of her parents' house in Hartford - the other one was of Luke.

'No!' she shook her head, trying to clear her head from thoughts of Rory, and of her parents.

She wanted, no, needed something to think about other than the current crisis, and this was it. Names. Last names - her own.

Somehow, taking the name of her husband seemed, traditional as it was, a lot like her parents world, maybe a little too idyllic. And she didn't know where she got that feeling from.

Maybe it was yet another one of her so called 'subconscious rebellions', because she knew how her parents - especially her mother - would react to a thing like that.

She smiled at the thought.

But on the other hand, how would her fiancée like the idea of different names? What if he liked the tradition?

Now that she thought about it, maybe it wasn't that bad, taking his name. It's not like it sounded awful…

Lorelai Vitoria Danes - nah, not bad at all.

Hope you liked it, please Review - those babies make my day, and they make me a better writer.
