The park was busy as usual, with children running and screaming as they played under the heat of the summer day. I, Olivia Avre had just finished my last day of school. It felt good to be away from the classrooms and to feel the sun on my face. Walking over the small bridge to get home, I heard them. Tiny voices that children heard stories about from their parents, about Skylanders. Skylanders were creatures from a place called Skylands, and had been sent to Earth by Kaos, an evil man who wanted Skylands for himself. It was common for children around my age to find Skylanders and become Portal Masters, but there was a catch. No Skylanders had actually been found by any Portal Master. I looked down, and I saw them. Frozen, but speaking, they cheered, "Portal Master Olivia! Come to us!"
Never had I ever thought I could be a Portal Master. I called down to them, "Portal Master? I have never even acquired a Portal of Power! You must be joking."
"No joke Master Olivia! Please, come to us." I shook my head and made my way down. My sweaty palms slipped over the rubble as I heard them. Soft voices drifting over the rubble screamed "Find us! Over here Portal Master Olivia!"
"I'm here." I smiled, staring at the eight Skylanders before me. I knew their names, as we even had an extra unit in school about Portal Masters. As first graders, we were allowed to sit and watch a movie and learn the Skylanders names. Truth be told, none of the Portal Masters in the past have ever used their Skylanders, as many did not have Skylanders. It was rare that Portal Masters did, because many were only there to learn the Skylanders. Only one Portal Master in history has ever had his own Skylanders, and his name was Master Eon. He would visit Earth in his spirit form, guiding the Portal Masters. But only a year ago did the amount of Portal Masters decrease greatly, and Master Eon returned to Skylands. Looking down at them, I named them off.
"Spyro, Trigger Happy, Gil Grunt, Terrafin, Eruptor, Stealth Elf, Sonic Boom, and Chop Chop." They all laughed as their names were called.
"We are glad you know whom we are Portal Master. Now, you should select one of us to start your journey." I reached out towards Sonic Boom, and she squawked. "Portal Master, maybe you should pick someone else." I shrugged and looked at everyone else. Spyro moved a bit, and called, "Try me Portal Master!" I reached out, and Spyro glowed, coming to life. "So, you are a magic element Portal Master." He smiled, and gestured to the other Skylanders. "Take them with you. Maybe you can send them back as well." I nodded and picked them up, sighing as I remembered my lack of a Portal of Power. "What is it Master Olivia?" Spyro said.
"I don't have a Portal of Power..." I looked sadly at them, wishing I could help. They all giggled and Spyro jumped down, moving aside a bunch of decayed leaves to reveal a Portal. "Here, now you do." He smiled as I picked it up, taking my new friends home with me. "Portal Master, you have to help stop Kaos. He is wrecking our home, and you can help." Spyro grinned as I set everyone down, and I touched the center of the Portal. I felt light headed, and I heard Spyro call, "Come on everyone! Jump on the Portal! Master Olivia..." I opened my eyes to see I was no longer on Earth, turning to find my Skylanders standing behind me fully grown to about my chest. "Welcome to Skylands."
