Love is blind - Kurtbastian
It had been a day like so many others. The sun was shining in the summer weather of august in New York. Kurt Hummel had been out shopping with his best friend Rachel Berry, or Rachel had done the shopping, Kurt was just there to support her choices, since she just needed someone to say yes to everything she chose, that was just typically Rachel, but Kurt didn't really mind, he liked spending time with her.
Kurt and Rachel had met through Kurt's stepbrother Finn Hudson, who was Rachel's boyfriend. The two of them had become friends right away – thanks to their common love for fashion, song and theater – and after high school they had all three moved from Ohio to New York, where they now shared a rather small apartment, that they could barely pay for, since they were all studying and none of them really had time for a part-time job, which was why Kurt always wondered where the money Rachel used to shop came from, but he never really questioned it.
Finn and Rachel usually helped Kurt in the daily life, and Kurt was more than grateful that he had them in his life, even though he sometimes missed to hear his father's voice and feel his warm hugs when Kurt was sad. He figured that maybe it wasn't always the best thing to move this far away from home; especially not in his condition.
Today Kurt had decided to go get a cup of coffee while Rachel continued her shopping; he had grown tired in the end and needed some peace and quiet.
He felt so helpless as he had to get help from other customers to get to the counter – he really hated when the stores redecorated, especially on days like today where he had let his dog – and white cane – stay at home; Rachel always helped him when they were out in town.
He ordered his usual order – non-fat grande mocca, and then he paid the barista. He gladly thanked her for the coffee, picked it up and turned around to try and find his way out, when he suddenly bumped into something that hadn't been behind him before. He felt the scolding coffee against his chest as he dropped the cup and heard his bag hit the floor, all of his papers now flying out in every direction, far out of Kurt's reach.
"Oh no, I'm so sorry," he mumbled as he tried to bend down and find his bag and papers without burning himself on the scolding coffee. He now felt even more helpless, if not ridiculous. He really hated when things like this happened to him.
"Watch where you are going," an annoyed voice, a male voice, spoke and didn't seem to look down at Kurt. Clearly it had been a bad time for Kurt to bump into this person.
"Sorry," Kurt just quickly said and tried to gather every piece of paper that had fallen out of his bag. He felt his special glasses fall off and hit the floor, going away from where he could find them alone. He cursed low at himself and desperately searched for them, hoping that he didn't look too silly. Finally it seemed like the stranger he had bumped into took a good look at Kurt and suddenly Kurt felt someone helping him onto his feet. It made him a bit breathless and he tried to feel around him, just to know where he was.
"Here, stand there. I'll get the papers for you," the stranger said in a still annoyed voice, but Kurt didn't complain as he patiently waited for the stranger to find what he had dropped and put it back into Kurt's backpack.
"You might need someone to look through those papers, I think some of them got coffee on them," the stranger spoke and then he put Kurt's special glasses into Kurt's hand. "Maybe you shouldn't come here alone next time." He still sounded irritated, but less hostile now.
"Sorry," Kurt just mumbled and turned around to leave, bumping into a few tables on the way – he once again cursed at himself for not bringing his dog, or his white cane - before he finally found his way out of the café and stood there, holding his bag close while he waited for Rachel. He felt humiliated, but also devastated in a way he hadn't felt in a long time. He hated being this useless, and he hated having to get help from people he didn't know. He just hoped that he would never meet that stranger again. Although, Kurt silently admitted to himself, his perfume were rather attractive, and while Kurt had been listening then he was almost convinced that he had heard the sound of leather, which usually meant that the stranger must have been wearing some kind of leather. Maybe a leather jacket? Kurt smiled to himself as he tried to imagine the person in his head – which wasn't easy, it was mostly rays of light and auras, and the aura was mostly a muddy red, which responded to the angry and irritated tone in his voice.
"Kurt!" it came from a female voice heading towards Kurt, who had now sat down outside of the café. "What are you doing out here? And why are you covered in coffee?" she asked confused and Kurt could sense her sitting down next to him. He was still confused after everything that had happened, and he wasn't sure how long it had been since he had sat down here. He sighed.
"Nothing. Just, please take me home Rachel?" he said, as he stood up, gentle stopping Rachel in her desperate attempt to clean off the coffee from his clothes. "I promised that I'll explain later," he offered her a soft smile, hoping that this would make her stop questioning him and just take him home.
"Okay, if you insist," she gave in, leaving the subject as she took his arm under her own and started to lead the way home. Kurt blindly followed – he didn't really have much of a choice. He was surprised to find that Rachel actually did not ask anymore questions and he was relieved when she started talking about everything that had happened on her shopping-trip. Soon they were home and Kurt asked to be left alone as he went to his room, lying down on his bed after having changed his clothes. He knew he had to check his papers, but for now he needed a bit of peace, and he needed to lie in his bed, burying his head in the fur of his dog. He was just going to lie like this for a while.
So I finally got done with the first chapter! I'm so sorry for the wait, so many things have been getting in the way! I'm working on chapter 2 already, but if you have any comments then please leave a review. I want to get better, and your reviews means the world to me.
