"Man, this storm is ridiculous." Dean commented as another horrendous boom of thunder echoed throughout the bunker. Dean was sitting in his chair at the table, devouring a hamburger he'd made. Cas sat across from him, eating a hamburger as well. After Cas had become human, the ex-angel found himself eating almost nothing but hamburgers. The brothers forced him to branch out, but whenever he could, Cas would have a burger.
"Yes, it's very loud." Cas agreed as another clap of thunder assaulted their ears. Cas flinched, and then squeezed his eyes shut. He hated the new weaknesses he was learning to live with. Each new human flaw irked him, and made him feel useless.
Dean caught Cas flinching, and frowned. Swallowing his bite, he said, "Cas, you okay?"
"Yes, I think thunder makes me nervous."
"Yeah, it could do that. A lot of people don't like it." Dean said, hoping he could help take the edge off of the experience for his friend.
"Of course not." Cas muttered. He heaved a sigh and dropped the burger on its plate, suddenly losing his apatite. He crossed his arms and stared at his food in frustration. Dean set his burger down and leaned on the table toward Castiel.
"Cas, it's okay to be afraid of thunder. Like I said, it's normal." He repeated. Cas shook his head violently.
"No, it's not! It's not okay!" He yelled, shoving off his chair and stomping out of the room toward the staircase that led to the bedrooms.
"Cas!" Dean called after him, but the ex-angel had already slammed the door to his room shut. Dean rushed after him and swung open his unlocked door.
Cas was crouched at the foot of his bed, and Dean had barely just sat next to him before he began ranting.
"I'm so helpless. I can't even stand thunder! I'm such a lowlife; trash!" Cas snarled, his eyes watery as he stared at Dean. His face had a disgusted look on it, and Dean was taken back by how full of self loathing Cas was. He had known that Cas was upset about recent events, but the ex-angel had managed to cover his true feelings with skill. Cas' body and voice shook as he looked at his feet.
"I should just kill myself. I'm no use to anyone. I should just end it. There's no point in–."
Suddenly, Cas felt Dean cup his face in his hands, and then the hunter's lips were crushed against his. The kiss only lasted a second, and after Cas could still feel the pressure of Dean's lips as a tingling that caused his heart to race. Dean's green eyes bored into Cas' blue ones. Both of their eyes were wide, and even though Cas couldn't hear it, Dean's heart was pounding, too.
"Don't ever say that again. Ever. I won't lose you Cas. Not again." Dean said hoarsely. Cas just nodded slightly, but Dean pressed the issue.
"Cas, promise me. That you won't give up."
"I-I won't. I promise." Cas felt tears rush into his eyes again, and he hid his face in his hands. Dean placed a hand on his back and made circular motions with his hands, trying to calm Cas.
"And I promise you, Cas. I won't give up on you. Ever." He said. Cas nodded.
"You never have. It means a lot to me." He said shakily and lifted his head. Dean grinned, and pulled Cas' face back to his for another kiss. This time it lasted long enough for Cas to kiss him back.
