A week after Damon's compulsion had been reversed and he'd been released from the Salvatore basement, Damon and Elena walked hand in hand through Mystic Falls. She'd helped him heal, gotten him back on his feet and he'd decided they needed to get out of the house. They'd both been cooped up at her house for far too long. Elena felt Damon let go of her hand, instead slipping his arm around her waist, pulling her closer. "What is it?" she asked. "I'll be right back." he said, leaning down to kiss her. Elena followed his line of vision and saw them…Stefan and Rebekah were standing in front of the grill, laughing together.
Elena froze. It had also been a week since she found out that Stefan and Rebekah were hooking up….apparently on a regular basis now. She wanted Stefan to be happy…but he deserved so much better than Rebekah. "Damon, NO…." she whispered, grabbing his hand and pulling him back. "Leave it alone, please." "Relax. I just want to talk to them about the cure." he said. "Damon…please don't." she pleaded. "Come with me." he said, linking their fingers together and tugging her along gently. Elena rolled her eyes and followed him slowly.
They approached Stefan and Rebekah and Damon immediately began chatting up his brother about finding the cure. Elena stayed quiet, refusing to make eye contact with Rebekah. Stefan answered Damon's questions curtly. "You're quiet tonight, Elena." Rebekah observed with a smirk. Elena looked up to meet her eyes. "Just don't have anything to say to you." Elena said through gritted teeth. She felt Damon's hand rest on the small of her back, soothing her. When Damon was satisfied, he exchanged an awkward, curt goodbye with his brother and lead Elena into the grill. "Something's up with them. He's lying to me. I can feel it. It looks like we aren't on the same team anymore." Damon said. Elena nodded. "You didn't figure that out when he started screwing Rebekah?" she pouted. Damon rolled his eyes, pulling her in and kissing her on the forehead. "Rebekah is a good lay. Crazy as hell…but good. He's single. She's single. What's the problem?" Damon answered. Elena glared up at him. "I mean…she was terrible. Disgusting, nothing compared to you." he teased her, causing Elena to crack a smile. "That's my girl. Stefan's out of our hair. Focus on that and let…it…go…" he said, leaning in to kiss her. Elena smiled and leaned up to kiss him. He was right. Stefan looked happy…even if Caroline assured her it was just sex…Stefan looked content….and that's what mattered. She had to let it go. "I'm not jealous." she assured him. "I just worry about him, you know..." she trailed off. He nodded. "I know. Now-" "I know, I know. Let it go." she chuckled. "It's let go." she promised, sitting down with him in a both, snuggling up to him as they looked over a menu.
