"Hey, Aya."
"What?" he replied curtly, although relief flooded his mind. Ken had been staring at him unnervingly for quite some time. He'd been sitting there reading when Ken had sat down and began to watch him. A bit freaky. Ken still hadn't answered and just seemed to be analyzing him even more. In frustration, he snapped the book shut and shot the now startled brunet a withering gaze. "What do you want Ken?"
Ken grinned sheepishly and averted his eyes. "It's just that I was wondering something..." he mumbled, his boldness checked at the moment.
"Wondering what?" Aya prompted, trying to end the conversation that was keeping him from his book. But maybe he was secretly delighted by the brunet's attentions, no matter how strange.
Ken spoke albeit reluctantly. "Well, not that I'm complaining or anything, but why do you wear glasses to read? Isn't that like, against the rules?"
"What rules, Ken?" Aya sighed as he rolled his eyes.
Ken was now a bit ruffled at being talked down to. "Wow, Aya I thought you, Mr. Smart and Beautiful, would catch my drift!"
Beautiful? Aya's cheeks tinged at that remark, despite the sarcasm the statement was laced with. Perhaps two could play at this game. "Well I guess I'm not as smart as you are sexy...but I still don't get what you are referring to." Aya smirked. That'll teach him. Wait, what WOULD that teach him? He didn't think flirting with Ken could come so naturally, let alone his outward declaration of his thoughts.
Ken's face burned red at Aya's compliment. But then he frowned. Aya always knew how to get his heart and actions all messed up. He hopped off the couch next to Aya's chair and stood before him still frowning in frustration.
Aya just looked incredulously at Ken hoping a punch wasn't coming from the seemingly irritated brunet. But instead of their usual brawl, Ken just grabbed his glasses and began waving them in front of his face. "These are what I'm talking about! Doesn't the obviousness get in your head? We're assassins! How can you kill someone and not even be able to read their nametag? Last time I checked assassins need 20/20 vision or better!" He punctuated the statement by dropping the glasses on Aya's lap.
Aya just stared at Ken for a moment, then began to chuckle.
"What's so funny?" Ken snapped.
Aya stood gracefully and gently placed the glasses on Ken's face. Instantly the brunet's mouth dropped open. Ken's eyes refocused on the very amused redhead. "You're a fricking impostor!" he shouted.
Aya nodded still gloating.
Ken shook his head, a smile playing on his lips. "Who knew that you of all people would pull this kind of stunt?" He abruptly made eye contact. "Did Youji put you up to this? Definitely his style...yet with more of the subtlety of Omi...," Ken mused out loud.
"It was Manx's idea. Just like you said no one would believe a florist was an assassin, especially one with reading glasses. I guess the habit just stuck, plus you can never get enough of the 'intelligent and mysterious' effect glasses bring." Aya answered, smiling.
Ken pondered that statement. "Nope!" Ken cried as he tackled the redhead to the floor, kissing him senseless.
As Aya melted into the lips he had craved for so long a thought popped into his head.
"The glasses work every time."
